Tracy Moore and Cheryl Hickey are reflecting on their careers following Citytv's decision not to move forward with the pair's new lifestyle show for Breakfast Television (BT). On Monday, the Canadian television personalities took to their respective Instagram accounts to address the network's decision —and hinted at plans for the next chapter of their careers.

Moore, who previously hosted CityLine, shared a video to social media announcing that she “had come to the end of an incredible 20 years at Citytv.” The veteran broadcaster thanked followers for their support, saying: “I win an award every single time I leave my house…the love respect and support I get for CityLine is overwhelming… I have nothing but love, I have nothing but gratitude…”

Moore said it was the “end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one” and that she will continue to work with Rogers Communications, which owns Citytv, on a project later this year.

The post earned support from colleagues and fans.

“So much love for you. The work stands. The character and class stands. You owe us nothing and have be such an inspiration to so many of us,” wrote TSN host Kayla Grey. “New chapter but same support; can’t wait to follow you wherever you go.”

"One of the best to ever do it!" said ETalk correspondent Liz Trinnear. "A true inspiration! Can’t wait to watch this next chapter unfold!"

“I was a CityLine viewer for decades starting with Marilyn Denis on her first show. I must say I really miss the show. There aren’t a lot of shows covering the number of topics you did and all from a Canadian point of view. I think Citytv has made a big mistake canceling it,” a follower said. “Best of luck to you.”

Hickey also addressed the news on Instagram by sharing a video celebrating some of her favourite moments with the network.

“After careful consideration, Citytv has decided to not move forward with the development of the new national hour of BT that I was to be a part of, so I am no longer working at Rogers,” she wrote.

Hickey, who previously worked as an on-air host for ET Canada, said she was disappointed in the decision, but “excited for what is to come.”

In 2024, Moore and Hickey began hosting occasional segments of BT. According to Hickey, the pair had been working to create a new show to "support people where they were at and be a landing page with various brands for joy and inspiration."

"We got so close, C!" Moore commented on the post. "We’ll have to figure it out another way on another day. In the meantime, the memories last forever."

Fans and fellow Canadian broadcasters took to the comments to weigh in on the network's decision.

"This industry is changing at break-neck speed and I'm dizzy and sad that plans did not pan out as planned," wrote The Social co-host Melissa Grelo. "Your talent is endless and it will continue to carry you. Can't wait to see where it takes you next."

"This sucks," wrote a fan. "I was looking forward to a show with you and Tracy. Would have preferred it be your own show and not an extension of you guys on BT... Would love to see you both doing something together [and] let Rogers see what they could have had."

"Very sad to hear this," another fan echoed. "Can't imagine how you are feeling. My jaw dropped this a.m. when I read this news. It is no reflection on you. You are amazing at what you do. Seems like a fickle industry, it doesn't deserve you."

In a statement to Now, Cityline addressed the network's decision to forego plans for a show featuring Moore and Hickey.

"We’re always assessing our television schedule to ensure we deliver programming that will build strong audiences, and we’ve decided not to move forward with the development of a new national hour of Breakfast Television," the statement said. "Tracy has been an invaluable contributor over her almost 20-year career with Citytv and we look forward to doing more work with her as an independent producer. Cheryl has earned a strong reputation as one of Canada’s leading television entertainment hosts, and we wish her continued success."
