Topshop's Black Friday sale 2020 - what to expect this year
Is it just us, or is the excitement for Topshop's Black Friday sale a bit too much to handle? From today, the retailer is discounting everything on site by an incred 25% so, naturally, we're buying allllll the clothes.
Topshop is a key pillar of the Great British high street. And here at Cosmo, if you didn't already know, we're quite obsessed. On our radar recently? The retailer's sassy satin halter tops, Insta-famous Jadon boots, sell-out boilersuit and that floral-print midi dress that took over London during the heatwave.
While the Topshop gems keep on coming, unfortunately our wages aren't quite keeping up with those ever-growing wishlists. The good news is, now that Black Friday is here, all of those items are so much more affordable.
Now is the time to buy all of your Christmas day outfits and New Year's Eve party dresses, or even a pair of winter boots, because they are all so much cheaper.

What should I look for on Black Friday 2019?
Guys, start adding to your wishlists asap. And don't get distracted on the big day, before you've made sure all of your faves are safely stowed in your basket. Shop online to avoid the queues and general chaos, and also to guarantee better size and stock options (we don't want any tears over the last size 12).

Whistles: You can currently get 30% off EVERYTHING on the Whistles site.
Jigsaw: The Black Friday started early, and there's up to 30% off everything.
NET-A-PORTER: The luxury e-tailer is remaining tight-lipped about specific details for now, but promises big things for Black Friday 2019.
ASOS: Last year, ASOS dropped a 20% off discount code that was applicable to anything, including sale items, on the site.
All Saints: All Saints is giving customers 30% off absolutely everything on the site right now.
Pandora: Rather than slashing its prices, the brand offered customers a free gift over a £125 spend – find out what was up for grabs (hint: it was incred) right here.
Mulberry: You're likely to get up to 20% off a Mulberry bag this Black Friday – find out how in our helpful guide.
H&M: H&M is giving customers 20% off everything right now when you sign up to its members club (for free).
Mango: Last year, the retailer dropped a promotional code that knocked 30% off everything full price on site – it lasted the whole weekend, expiring at midnight on Cyber Monday.
Selfridges: Selfridges literally just launched its 'Christmas Come Early' sale. The luxury department store is giving customers 20% off jewellery, watches, women’s accessories, womenswear and women’s shoes when you type the code 'SELFCCE' into the checkout.
& Other Stories: Last year, & Other Stories dropped a promotional code on Black Friday Eve for 20% off EVERYTHING full price on the site.
When is Black Friday 2019?
Black Friday always falls on the last weekend of November which, this year, is 29th November. From our experience, clothes shopping is a little easier than anything else (like tech or beauty); most retailers launch their sales before the big day and continue them through the whole Cyber weekend, sometimes even beyond it. Last year, Topshop's Black Friday sale lasted six whole days.
What even is Black Friday?
Black Friday kickstarted in '30s America when the department store Macy's cashed in on the annual Thanksgiving Day parade (if you love Gossip Girl, you'll remember Dan and Serena watching it on TV in season six).
The term 'Black Friday' wasn't officially coined until years later, with the event becoming more of a thang during the big capitalist years of the '80s (ya know, Working Girl, Wall Street bankers and, um, all the independent ladies reading Cosmopolitan). FYI, it's always been manic AF, that's why we prefer to shop online from the smug comfort of our homes.
Amazon was the first retailer to bring Black Friday over to the UK, offering customers online discounts and deals on the same day as the sales in the US. Supermarket Asda was next, creating some serious fuss (and physical fights, for real) with huge discounts on TVs and tech in store.
Soon the rest of the UK caught on to the potential pre-Christmas profit and the rest is history.
Does Topshop take part in Black Friday?
Topshop has taken part in Black Friday for two years running. Think we can assume the retailer is a fan of the sales day.
What was on sale last year?
Last year Topshop gave customers up to 50% off absolutely everything on the site. The retailer dropped the discount a few days before Black Friday, which lasted beyond the big weekend. This was much appreciated, because it gave shoppers more time to consider their purchases.
