These Are the Top Fragrances for 2025, According to Industry Experts
'You smell good!' is one of the best compliments you can receive. That's because it’s not just about how others perceive you – it’s about the confidence that comes with knowing you’ve made an impression. Fragrance, then, isn’t just an accessory; it’s a statement, a mood, and sometimes even a quiet excuse for skipping leg day.
While last year was all about the modern gourmand, this year's scents are bold, unexpected and, frankly, a little wild. Think 'bourbon barrel meets lavender field', or 'freshly moss but make it seductive.' It's not just about smelling clean anymore – the latest wave of fragrances for 2025 want you to smell like you've got a story to tell.
On the hunt for a new cologne or signature scent or just another fragrance to add into rotation? The industry's biggest experts have spoken; here are the fragrance notes that are setting the tone for 2025.
1/ F is for Fougère
Fougère, aka fern, for those who have no recollection of GSCE French, 'will come back in the spotlight for 2025' reveals Julia Koeppen, Global General Manager from Penhaligons. This time around, however, the herbaceous and green scent has evolved to become more addictive, more sensual, more ritualistic and crucially gender-neutral. 'Traditionally “clean” notes with will be materialised by fern notes for all,' adds Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp.
Penhaligions are bringing back the much-loved English Fern from 1911, said to evoke the feeling of a bracing walk through the English countryside with notes of clover, lavender and geranium with woods, patchouli and moss for an earthy eau de toilette.

2/ A Focus on Focus
'Wellbeing scents in 2025 are evolving to blend scents with self-care, reflecting a growing focus on emotional and physical wellness. Perfumes are increasingly seen as tools to support mental and emotional states, with many incorporating aromatherapy-inspired ingredients to target specific moods,' says the Head of Buying at The Perfume Shop.
'Relaxation-focused scents are crafted with notes like lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood, perfect for stress relief and improving sleep. On the other hand, energising perfumes often include bright citrus notes such as bergamot and grapefruit, offering a revitalising boost.'

3/ Rose Reimagined
Once dismissed as old-fashioned, rose based fragrances are experiencing a dazzling renaissance. Jo Malone CBE, founder of Jo Loves, says, 'You can take it down a delicate, fresh route, or, when you mix it with something gourmand, it becomes rich and seductive. That’s what makes rose so exciting to me – it’s not one thing. Pair it with citrus, and suddenly it’s bright and sparkling, alive with energy. Blend it with woods, and it becomes deep and mysterious, almost smoky. Add spices or gourmand notes like vanilla or dates, and it’s warm and sensual.'

4/ Boozy Notes
While it's still Dry January IRL, in the fragrance world, boozy scents are definitely trending. Boozy accords like whiskey and rum bring warmth, richness, and indulgence, perfectly captured in Akro Rise, Armani Stronger With You Absolutely and Givenchy's Gentleman Givenchy, where these notes offer a sophisticated edge.
