Five love lessons from Netflix dating show Too Hot to Handle
The sixth series of Too Hot to Handle has landed on Netflix, with a whole new cast of sexy singles trying to win the top cash prize by being celibate throughout the show.
Fans of the show can catch all the drama from Friday 19 July, as the first four episodes are now streaming on Netflix. The next three episodes will be released on Friday 26 July, with the final three dropping on Friday 2 August.
The series involves around 10 singletons who have been brought together on a tropical island for four weeks. They are banned from any kissing, sexual contact, or self-gratification for the duration of their four-week stay on a tropical island - or risk the grand $250,000 (approximately £193,898) prize being reduced every time a rule is broken.
Contestants are also challenged to create genuine connections with each other that aren’t dependent on physical contact. They are managed by the host, a virtual assistant named Lana, who puts them through their paces. With so much sexual tension in the air, there’s bound to be plenty of drama that viewers will be eager to watch.
But along with the drama also comes lessons in life and love. Now that the first four episodes are available to watch on Netflix, here are five love lessons that we can all learn from the contestants on Too Hot to Handle. Can you handle them?
Rules are made to be broken (Episode 2)
Contestant Louis Russell, who originally appeared in the fifth series of the show and is known for being a major rule breaker, has returned to the island. His invitation to come back on the show was meant to set an example for the new contestants - but he has already caused a ruckus by snogging Katherine during a romantic date. Sometimes in life, you just have to break the rules.
Absence really does make the heart grow fonder (Episode 2)
New contestants Charlie and Bri are banished from the rest of the group by Lana, splitting Bri up from her crush Demari. During her time in banishment, Bri realises that she wants to pursue her feelings for Demari - which just goes to show that sometimes, time away is all you need to see the path ahead with clarity.
Actions speak louder than words (Episode 3)
Despite his connection with Lucy, Charlie is a real troublemaker. After realising he kissed three girls in one day, it was clear he needed to put the work in to get Lucy back. Turning on his charm doesn’t cut it, so he pulls out the stops by organising a surprise serenade and recruits Bri to help bring Lucy outside with a blindfold on. When she removes the blindfold, she sees Charlie serenading her with his saxophone and is charmed again.
Know when it’s time to walk away (Episode 3)
Drama happens fast in the world of Too Hot to Handle, and Jordan and Flavia have had an explosive time in the first four episodes alone. After their disastrous date, Flavia decides to share her bed to Joao - but this leaves Jordan feeling abandoned. He makes the dramatic decision to end his time on the show and leave the island, admitting that he falls too hard for people and it ends in him becoming upset. It’s a difficult but necessary lesson in knowing when the time was right to walk away.
Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener (Episode 4)
In this episode, Bri is banished once again to give a new arrival a chance at winning over Demari. Colombian model Valentina has entered the chat via her rather memorable entry into the retreat, declaring her second name was Drama. Valentina whisks Demari away for a very flirty date on the beach, which includes a costly kiss. Demari is then given the option of releasing Bri from banishment, but he tells Lana he needs more time to make his decision. But the episode ends with Demari realising he has a genuine connection with Bri and he decides to release her from banishment. Although Bri is fuming at Demari, it shows that sometimes, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
