Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle: Review by mum of two
As a parenting writer and mum of two, I’ve experienced first-hand the exhaustion of having a baby with colic. It’s so upsetting to see your baby in discomfort during or after their feeds, watching them guzzle too quickly, with air intake leading to painful gas in their tiny tummies.
Rated as one of the best bottles for babies by Women’s Health, the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle claims to prevent painful gas build-up and colic symptoms. But does it live up to its claims?
Here’s my low-down on everything you need to know about the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle.
Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle: The Women’s Health verdict
The Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle has a durable, leakproof design with a soft, breast-like silicone teat ideal for newborns and young babies. While it takes some time to assemble the multiple parts, the patented anti-colic wand draws air away from your baby’s milk to prevent air intake, helping minimise spit-up, reflux and colic.
I love that this bottle is 100% leakproof, with a precise measuring gauge to help you keep track of feeds. But it’s the self-sterilising design that makes it stand out from the rest. It removes bacteria in just three minutes.

How I tested the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle
While testing a bottle’s anti-colic benefits isn’t an exact science, I put the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle through vigorous, hands-on testing to determine its usefulness.
I also enlisted the help of my mini-tester, seven-month-old Miles. I observed him during feeds to gain insights into his comfort level and teat acceptance. I looked for any signs of discomfort during and after feeds, comparing this with his usual MAM Easy Active bottle for any differences in response.
During testing, I evaluated the bottle’s:
Overall design and teat
Whether you’re currently bottle-feeding, expressing an occasional bottle or transitioning away from breastfeeding, finding a bottle that feels secure and comfortable for your baby is key.
In my testing, I considered the Tommee Tippee bottle’s material, size, and shape and whether it lives up to its 100% leakproof claim. I also assessed my tester’s acceptance of the Tommee Tippee’s breast-like teat and observed the quality of his latch during feeds.
Ease of assembly
Preparing bottles for your baby can feel like a never-ending task, especially in the early days, so one that’s easy to take apart and put back together is essential.
While anti-colic bottles inevitably have more parts than a standard baby bottle, I practised assembling and disassembling the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle during testing. I was particularly concerned about the potential fiddliness of the anti-colic vented wand.
Ease of cleaning
Easy-to-clean bottles are key, enabling you to prepare one quickly when your baby’s hunger strikes. In addition to washing the bottle by hand and in the dishwasher, I tested this bottle’s self-sterilising functionality using my microwave.
Key features of the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle
The Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle has three features I love:
Patented vented wand
Unlike some anti-colic bottles with small vents in the teat, the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle has a unique design. It uses a vented wand that actively draws air away from the milk as your baby feeds.
Tommee Tippee’s research found this bottle led to fewer colic symptoms in 95% of babies, reducing air ingestion during feeds to prevent uncomfortable gas and reflux.
Self-sterilising design
Self-sterilising bottles are a quick, efficient way to ensure your baby bottles are hygienic without needing a stand-alone steriliser.
Ideal for time-pressed parents, the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle has a microwavable, self-sterilising design. When you need a bottle fast, you can simply fill the base with 50ml of water, place it on the lid and heat it in the microwave for three minutes to remove 99% of germs and bacteria.
Silicone teat
The slow-flowing, breast-like teat of the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle makes it a natural, familiar-feeling bottle for breastfed babies. It’s soft yet durable, stretches and flexes just like the nipple and supports babies’ transition between the breast and bottle without confusion.
As your baby grows in confidence, you can switch to medium-flow teats from the Tommee Tippee range.
Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle review
Once I opened the packaging, I assembled the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle (more on this process in a bit), and it was off to the races with testing. Here are my findings:
Overall design and teat
I was really impressed with the innovative design of the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic bottle. Made from durable BPA-free plastic with a wide neck and curved sides, the bottle is ergonomically shaped and easy for my tester’s small hands to hold.
I also loved the bold, black measuring gauge on the side of the 260ml bottle I tested (though some online reviewers found that it wore off slightly over time). It made it easy to see how much my tester had consumed with each feed.
The teat is made from super-soft silicone, which is more robust than a latex teat but still flexed and adapted to my tester’s palette during feeds. Miles accepted the teat without any fuss or frustration, achieving a comfortable, open-mouthed latch and feeding at his own pace.
The flow rate is slow and not overwhelming for younger babies, but there’s also a larger 340ml bottle for when your baby consumes more at each feed.
The Tommee Tippee Anti-Colic Bottle claims to be 100% leakproof with the cap attached. To test this, I actively shook, tipped and turned the bottle upside down. I even pushed it off the side of a high chair.
Despite some effort, the bottle lived up to my expectations — with no drips, spills, or leaks! I’ll be confident throwing this bottle into my changing bag for feeds when I’m out and about.
Ease of assembly
With six pieces, the Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic Bottle is a little more complex to assemble than your average baby bottle.
On the first attempt, I checked the instructions carefully, especially when attaching the flower-shaped silicone to the base of the venting tube. Once I pushed the venting tube into the bottle base, however, I was able to secure the silicone teat and screw ring.
After a few uses, the process — while a bit fiddly — became quick and easy. I loved that there’s the option to remove the anti-colic valve as your baby grows.
Ease of cleaning
There are a few more parts to clean than a typical bottle, and the soft silicone of the teat and valve needs extra care. The brand recommends gently washing the inside with a teat brush.
While I didn’t find cleaning by hand too onerous, it can be frustrating with a newborn that feeds frequently. That said, I loved that the bottle parts can be cleaned on the top shelf of your dishwasher for a low-maintenance option when you have time.
This bottle’s self-sterilising feature is a huge plus. It’s handy for new parents who don’t need a separate steriliser cluttering their kitchen countertops.
Additionally, the microwave kills bacteria and viruses using just 50ml of water, which turns to steam when heated. It’s great for peace of mind, and I love that you can extend the time and self-sterilise multiple bottles simultaneously. However, you do need to allow a few minutes for the bottles to cool down again before removing them.
Most importantly, does the Tommee Tippee Anti-Colic Bottle work?
Every baby is different, so what reduces colic symptoms for one baby might not help another. However, thanks to the bottle’s venting tubes’ one-way system, my tester finished entire feeds without experiencing any major spit-ups or regurgitation. Although I continued to wind as usual, he was calm and comfortable.
What other anti-colic baby bottles could you consider?
While many baby bottles claim to be anti-colic, several go one step further with anti-colic valves or wands rather than vented teats.
I particularly rate Dr Brown’s Natural Flow Anti Colic bottles. Their internal vent system is clinically proven to reduce colic and decrease spit-up, burping and wind. While they don’t have the self-sterilising feature of the Tommee Tippee, they include a wire brush to ensure thorough cleaning of the venting tube.
What is colic?
Colic refers to stomach discomfort or pain caused by trapped gas in a baby’s digestive system. The signs of colic include excessive crying, fussiness and pulling their legs up towards their tummy. You may even hear their tummy rumbling or gurgling.
According to the NHS, your baby may have colic if they cry more than three hours a day, three days a week for at least one week but are otherwise healthy.
How can I ease the symptoms of colic?
Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix for colic, but symptoms should reduce as your baby grows. While reducing air intake through an anti-colic or vented baby bottle can help, here are some other tricks that worked for me:
Wind your baby after every feed, even if you’re breastfeeding.
Give your baby a warm bath to help them relax, soothe their tummy and minimise bloating.
Gently massage your baby’s back to calm them and encourage trapped air and gas to escape.
