Contrary to some recent viral advertising, Tom Hanks is not an official spokesperson for CBD.

In fact, the Hollywood icon has groused about a recent ad doing the rounds in which he appears to be endorsing the theraputic cannabis spin-off.

In the ad, for Cannapro CBD, Hanks looks authoratative and stately in a red carpet pose, and with that tache, we'd put it around the Sully era, in which he played hero pilot Captain Chesley 'Sully' Sullenberger.

“The advances Doctor Oz has made in the CBD industry are remarkable,” he appears to be saying. “I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't had the chance to try it out for myself.

“After using CANNAPRO CBD for two weeks, I was already feeling like a new me.”

It seems that these are not the words of Tom Hanks.

Posting the ad on his Instagram page, Hanks captioned: “This is false and an intentional hoax. I’ve never said this and would never make such an endorsement.

“Come on, man! Hanx!”

Mind you, there are plenty of celebrities who do extol the use of cannabidiol, or CBD, the chemical found naturally in marijuana plants, but does not contain the high.

Whoopi Goldberg is the co-founder of a medical marijuana company, Whoopi & Maya, which also sells CBD remedies, specifically aimed at the relief of menstruation pain.

Jennifer Aniston also uses it for anxiety, stress, pain relief and relaxation, as does Olivia Wilde, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Bell and Seth Rogen.

Michael J. Fox also uses it to alleviate some of the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease.
