TIFF 2024: Vote on the best and worst-dressed celebrities of the week, from Salma Hayek to Katy Perry
From stars like Selena Gomez to Amy Adams, cast your vote on celebrity red carpet fashion at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Toronto has been full of glitz and glamour this month, with many of the biggest names in Hollywood showing up to red carpet premieres of some of the year's most-anticipated movies. Since starting on Sept. 5, the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has seen celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Pamela Anderson and Demi Moore step out in head-turning looks that are full of elegance and glam.
The 49th edition of the annual film festival runs until Sept. 15 this year, and some of the fashion trends that have been hitting the red carpet over the past few days include floral embellishments, monochromatic ensembles and chic bows.
Stars like Sydney Sweeney, Sandra Oh, Salma Hayek, Selena Gomez and Amy Adams all brought out their top-tier fashion game when it came to their respective red carpets for films like Eden, Emilia Pérez and Without Blood. On the other hand, celebrities including Sarah Paulson, Chloë Seivgny, Ana de Armas, Margaret Qualley and Katy Perry had some unfortunate style misses.
Last week, Yahoo Canada readers had the chance to vote on the best and worst-dressed celebrities at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. In those polls, 39 per cent of more than 2,800 votes considered Angelina Jolie the best-dressed star at the event. Conversely, 45 per cent of more than 1,800 votes called out Taylor Russell as the worst dressed.
So, who would you consider the best and worst-dressed stars this week? Gathering five of the best and five of the worst looks seen so far at this year's TIFF, continue scrolling to learn more about some of the outfits and cast your votes in the polls below.
BEST DRESSED: Sydney Sweeney
Sydney Sweeney looked exquisite for the Eden premiere, wearing a cream-coloured 1950s-inspired dress from Erdem. The 26-year-old actress' floral-embellished gown featured a circle skirt that hit at her ankles, and her ensemble featured a matching cape to cover her shoulders.
WORST DRESSED: Sarah Paulson
Sarah Paulson looked a bit statuesque at the Hold Your Breath premiere. The 49-year-old actress wore a plunging navy blue blazer from Schiaparelli, which took all the attention in the room with its broad shoulders and fringe-covered sleeves.
BEST DRESSED: Sandra Oh
Sandra Oh looked nothing short of spectacular at the TIFF Tribute Awards. The 53-year-old Canadian actress wore a black off-the-shoulder dress that featured oversized roses on its neckline and hemline. She accessorized with black short heels topped with rhinestone rectangular adornments, as well as silver drop earrings.
WORST DRESSED: Chloë Sevigny
Chloë Sevigny unfortunately looked like she pulled out a last-minute look for the Bonjour Tristesse premiere. The 49-year-old actress opted for a strapless white dress that featured a pretty floral pattern but a wrap design that looked too much like a bath towel post-shower. Large silver hoop earrings and black pointy pumps weren't enough to save this outfit.
BEST DRESSED: Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek never seems to step onto a red carpet unless she's looking incredible — and that was certainly true for the Without Blood premiere. The 58-year-old actress wore an asymmetrical sequin gown from Gucci that accentuated her infamous curves and let her sparkle with magnificence.
WORST DRESSED: Ana de Armas
Ana de Armas might've aimed for fun for her TIFF outfit at the Eden premiere, but the 36-year-old actress looked like she walked the red carpet wearing a fashion mishap instead. She wore a pale pink Louis Vuitton sheet ensemble featuring rhinestones and a skirt that only fell to the floor on the hips.
BEST DRESSED: Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez went for a dark glamour during the Emilia Pérez premiere. The 32-year-old actress wore a custom Rodarte dress featuring numerous sequins and a floral embellishment on the chest. Tiffany & Co. jewelry added a touch of class, while old Hollywood-inspired waves in her hair brought out her beauty.
WORST DRESSED: Margaret Qualley
Margaret Qualley wore one of the most questionable looks at this year's festival. The 29-year-old actress attended the premiere of The Substance wearing an ensemble featuring a teal off-the-shoulder cape, black shoulder bows and a black bodysuit from — you guessed it — Chanel.
BEST DRESSED: Amy Adams
Amy Adams stepped out in glamour for the Road to the Golden Globes Party. The 50-year-old actress opted for an off-the-shoulder navy blue custom gown from Prada that featured numerous shiny jewel embellishments and trumpet sleeves.
WORST DRESSED: Katy Perry
Katy Perry joined partner Orlando Bloom for the premiere of The Cut, wearing a Celine saree-inspired ensemble that looked too much like an elimination-worthy Project Runway outfit. The 39-year-old singer dressed in a bandeau bra, high-waisted skirt and embroidered veil, showing off a micro-bang hairstyle that took away from her natural beauty.
