Bright idea: Stock up on household essentials during Prime Day to ensure you're set for the holidays and beyond. (Amazon)

Amazon's October Prime Day event is here, with deep discounts on everyday necessities — and upgrades! — that can improve your day-to-day life. While other Yahoo editors are focused on beauty, fashion and tech (discover deals across categories), I'm stocking up on home essentials that can help me tidy up my space.

This time around, Prime Day deal highlights include up to 40% off personal favorites from furniture-saving Magic Erasers and clothing-preserving laundry detergent to reusable kitchen towels and invigorating hand soap. That's not to mention the odor eliminator every home needs and some of the deepest discounts on Scrub Daddy sponges I've seen.

Whether you're looking to get ahead of the holidays or save money on items you'd purchase anyway, read on for some of the best deals on cleaning products and other household essentials that will make your home look and smell great.

If your ratty old dish towels have seen better days, this 100% cotton set is an excellent swap. The waffle weave pattern not only looks nice, but it also offers a bit of texture for more effective scrubbing.

This is about as low as these kitchen staples have ever been on sale for.

First up: Magic Erasers. It took me forever to buy some, but now that I've been using them for a few years, I can't imagine not having them in my home.

The foam sponges are soft enough for more delicate surfaces, such as walls and wood furnishings, yet strong enough to get the job (ahem, sauce or crayon removal) done.

I recently had a mini panic attack when I thought fallen pollen from a bunch of lilies had stained my light oak dining table forever and, to my amazement, my Magic Erasers removed each yellow stain.

Scrub Daddy sponges have become my go-to for tougher messes (read: greasy pans, dirty tiles and bath scum). They're gritty, squishy and even dishwasher-friendly. They're also just really fun.

The brand's colorful value assortment is currently on sale for 16 bucks and change — around $2.70 sponge, compared to the usual $5 plus — complete with a free "Daddy Caddy" sponge holder that suctions to the sink for easy access.

Last time I checked, there were Scrub Mommy sponges and a sponge/cleaner multipack on sale. Whichever you choose, act quickly because I expect these to go fast. These also make great stocking stuffers and white elephant gifts!

Mr. Siga's highly rated, often (ineffectively) duplicated cleaning cloths have garnered a reputation — and a following of at least 65,000 Amazon customers — for their soft, durable, absorbent fabric and vibrant color range.

You can currently nab a pack for almost half off, the lowest price to date, to reduce the amount of paper towels you're spending money on just to throw in the trash.

As someone who works from home and loves to cook, I go through a lot of dish (washer) soap.

I like how this one from Seventh Generation, now 25% off a value bundle, is made free and clear — aka without any harsh fragrances or dyes that can otherwise stick to plates and utensils — and doesn't leave any streaky residue behind.

The brand’s naturally scented Lemon Chamomile Dishwasher Pods and Cleaning Spray are also on sale, for those who prefer a light fragrance.

Hand soap is another product I frequently go through, with Mrs. Meyers' biodegradable formula among my go-tos.

Last time I checked, you could scoop up a 33-ounce refill tub — just over $2 a soap when you consider the brand’s usual 12-ounce portions — of the Lemon Verbena scent, an amazing deal and a great idea for anyone who wants to save while cutting back on trips to the store.

The brand is also offering up to 50% off Fall Leaves (a personal favorite), Apple Cider and Acorn Spice for getting into the fall season and gifting.

Caldrea is a brand I rely on fairly regularly to keep my kitchen smelling fresh (the brand's cleaning and room sprays are airy and bright and the bottles look nice sitting on a countertop).

Last time I checked, a two-pack of the Ginger Pomelo Linen and Room Spray was on sale, along with other hits like the Ginger Pomelo Hand Soap and Pear Blossom Agave Dish Soap, for 30% off.

Only need one? Caldrea's pretty packaging also makes it a nice gift for friends and family when birthdays and holidays come around.

If it were up to me, every bathroom would come (and remain) equipped with a bottle of Home- or Poo-Pourri.

I like how the brand's products actually break up — versus just mask — air molecules and that they don't leave any funky scents or secrets behind (the Lavender Sage scent, now 20% off, is one of the most soothing I've tried).

You can also find limited-edition toilet sprays, along with the brand's essential travel sizes, among the brand's Prime Day deals for keeping things classy at home and on the go.

Stock up on laundry detergent with 30% off select Method 4-packs, including the brand's signature Ginger Mango and, my personal favorite, Beach Sage.

Each bottle contains enough liquid to cover 66 loads, so there's enough to cover work attire, uniforms, activewear, loungewear and beyond (and for a long time).

I've also had good experiences with Method's on-sale Pink Grapefruit All-Purpose Cleaner Spray and Sea Minerals Gel Hand Soap if you're good on the laundry front.

These No. 1 bestselling fabric-softening balls can be reused for over a thousand laundry loads. They're made entirely of wool, and not only will they make your washables plush, they'll shorten their drying time in the process. What's more, they'll save you tons of money on not-so-eco-friendly dryer sheets. Consider them our favorite laundry hack.

You may think of your washing machine as being self-cleaning, but experts recommend giving it a deeper clean regularly to help keep mildew under control and, er, off of your clothes.

You can go the DIY route (more on that here), or you can pop in one of these popular deodorizing pods, which have over 90,000 perfect Amazon ratings, in and let it do the dirty work for you.

"This is now the third time I've purchased these washing machine tablets," shared one five-star fan. "They work so well! One to two times a month I will run one through my front-load washer. It cleans it and helps get rid of residue, and helps prevent build up and smell. Highly recommend!"
