The cowboy boot is the A-list's favourite new footwear style
It’s safe to say that the autumn/winter 2025 collections made a strong case for women's cowboy boots: the classic Western silhouette was spotted at Gabriela Hearst, Vaquera and Burberry, to name a few. But while designers may have manifested the shoe’s runway renaissance, it’s the A-list that have cemented Americana style as the look of the season.
When Beyoncé dropped her country-inspired album, Cowboy Carter earlier this year, online searches for Stetsons, double denim and cowboy boots boomed. Elsewhere in Hollywood, equestrian Bella Hadid (and her real-life cowboy boyfriend) are wearing blue bootcut denim with their battered leather boots. Kendall Jenner has been spotted in several pairs of Western boots, styled with everything from slip dresses and floral maxis to joggers and cycling shorts, and Emily Ratajkowski has been keeping things Eighties-preppy in oversized blazers and straight-leg denim. As you can see from these references, a great pair of cowboy boots is about as versatile (and trans-seasonal) as footwear comes.
Once you look beyond the dated (not to mention slightly appropriative) Coachella tropes, you can appreciate cowboy boots for the true staple they are. But, if you’re not planning on donning a pair of Daisy Dukes, or attending any summer festivals, how can you wear a pair day-to-day?
The key is to avoid anything too costumey. Take cues from Isabel Marant, who debuts different iterations every season; paired with boho cotton dresses in the spring and tucked into balloon jeans come autumn. Or, try swapping your summer sandals for a pair – they’ll add just the right amount of attitude to billowy prairie maxis, kitsch floral midis or anything bias-cut.
Cowboy boots translate after sunset, too. Anthony Vaccarello’s penchant for weaving western touches into his glamorous 1980s-inspired eveningwear means the two references are now synonymous; so opt for black boots and you can style yours with everything from patent mini skirts and and 20-denier tights to sequins. And once the party is over? Go off-duty with a Princess Diana-inspired tuck. Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner have been known to do this with joggers – and that’s about as 2025 as it gets.

The best cowboy boots for women
Ganni
Ganni's embroidered cowboy boot was such a hit when it first debuted a few years back, the Scandi brand has kept the shape as part of its core collection. Every season a new colourway drops (for spring/summer 2025 there's rich burgundy and metallic blue) but this monochrome option has always been our favourite.
Gabriela Hearst
This boot is Gabriela Hearst in a nutshell: a refined, contemporary take on a classic. Set on a stacked cuban heel, it's made from tobacco suede that's free from any fussy embroidery – save from the subtle overstitching at the sole. We like how the shaft is cut extra high to allow for some natural pooling over time.

Isabel Marant
For Isabel Marant, cowboy boots are a constant. How does the designer keep this look fresh? By staying true to the original style's loose shape, but switching things up with a cone heel or steel-capped toe. This ankle-high pair is made from orange suede, stitched with a pared-back take on western embroidery, and topped with V-cut cuffs.
Ariat
Red cowboy boots will forever be iconic. Lori Singer wore a pair as Ariel in the 1984 film Footloose; and the fascination with Jessica Simpson's scarlet pair in the 2005 Dukes of Hazard prompted the singer to launch her own (very successful) footwear line. The glossed leather on Ariat's embroidered design helps to create a striking, saturated finish.
Reformation
Reformation put a lot of thought into creating a truly sustainable shoe before launching its footwear department in 2021; the brand managed to save 5 lbs of carbon dioxide and 1,826 gallons of water when producing its Otto cowboy boot.
We love the Cacti stitching and curved cuffs on this suede pair, as well as those impressive eco credentials.
Cos
A subtler nod to the cowboy trend, but still a dramatic boot in its own right, Cos' black leather style is shaped to a wide, knee-high silhouette and set on a barely-there slanted heel. The squared-off point toe toughens things up even more.
AllSaints
AllSaints is dipping into its 30 year archive to bring back fresh versions of the brand's most-loved styles. Its cult Jane boot – a cowboy style complete with an array of heavy-duty buckles – is back in this snake-embossed leather, as well as leopard pony skin and utilitarian sand suede
Ba&sh
Looking for an evening-appropriate cowboy boot? Enter, Ba&ash's coveted Caitlin design – it keeps reappearing in the brand's collections for a reason. Made from black suede, this ankle style is defined by its subtle Western-inspired embroidery and slender heel.
Annie’s Ibiza X Terry de Havilland
Top of our wishlist is the Annie’s Ibiza and Terry de Havilland collaboration. Together the cult brands have created a limited collection of cowboy boots featuring a slim knee-high shaft, the signature Annie's Ibiza orange lining and TDH's iconic western appliqué. The silver and metallic-blue snake-embossed styles would look great styled with space-age chainmail at parties, but the smooth white and black leather styles are a more wearable choice for year-round styling.

Chloé
Chloé also has its own spin on a signature cowboy boot style, often mixing western and Victorian references to create something totally new. This ankle iteration – the brand's iconic Susannah style – is set on a slanted capped heel, studded in silver and topped with a trio of buckled straps.
