This is the perfect formula for a shopping trip, apparently

What makes a successful shopping trip - how many shops you visit, how many Instagram shots you post, or how many bargains you find?

According to new research, there’s actually one precise formula for the perfect shopping trip.

Commissioned by shopping centre owner Intu and credit card experts MBNA, the study found that the perfect length of time to go shopping is three hours.

Nine is the perfect number of shops to visit, and there should be little time spent queuing - seven minutes, to be precise.

Spending-wise, £118 is the perfect amount of cash to depart with, which includes buying five items and a refuel break for coffee and cake.

The study of 2,000 Brits found that the best time to start such a day is at 10:28am on a Saturday morning - so you do get a bit of a lie in - and finishes off with a meal out. Because what perfect day wouldn’t finish that way?

And if you’re an Instagram fan you won’t be surprised that social media plays a big role in the perfect day - shoppers between the ages of 18 and 44 will update their social media five times.

All in all, that sounds pretty convincing to us - who wouldn’t love a day full of coffee and cake, five new purchases and a meal out to boot?
