I won’t lie. As a youth, Geri was my favorite Spice Girl — to be later replaced by Victoria for reasons that I still find far too painful to talk about. (Hint: Geri quit.)

But it wasn’t until later that I realized the true star of the best girl group in history: That would be Melanie Brown — aka Mel B, aka Scary Spice. No crop top was too tiny and no platform sneaker was too tall. With her natural, bouncy curls, fearlessly zany style, and rock-hard abs, Mel was a true renegade as far as late-‘90s trends were concerned.
