You can spot a new parent a mile off. They’re the ones with a shedload of Touche Eclat covering their eye bags, chugging the coffee like its going out of fashion and dreaming wistfully of the days when 6 hours was considered a bad night’s sleep.

Ask any parent of a shiny newborn and they’ll tell you that sleep deprivation is one of the toughest parts of the whole parenting thing. But one company is promising to help ease things on the sleep front, by inventing a bassinet that will send your baby back to sleep for you.

The SNOO Smart Sleeper uses microphones, speakers and sensors to detect a baby’s cries, then rocks them back to sleep with a “womb-like motion”, while playing white noise to soothe them.

The clever little basket works when you first put your baby down to sleep, but will also spring, or should we say rock into action when they detect fussing, crying or agitated movement, meaning parents can stay in bed and catch up on some much needed ZZZs.

And the smart-ness doesn’t end there, Snoo also comes with an app collecting data, which allows parents to monitor and review their baby’s sleep patterns.

Described by makers as the world’s first smart bassinet, the invention is the brainchild of Dr Harvey Karp, a paediatrician and child development expert, who created the baby bed in collaboration with MIT industrial design experts.

But the price of a good night’s sleep for parents doesn’t come cheap, with the sleeper retailing at a cool USD $1,116, that’s £907 British pounds. Wowzers. And considering you’re only able to use the bassinet until your little one is six months old, the cost per sleep works out at approximately £5 a night.

We’ve no doubt some frazzled parents will think it’s worth every single penny.
