It Looks Like The Duchess Of Cambridge Might Not Be Pippa’s Bridesmaid

Yesterday heralded some wedding news: Pippa Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister, is engaged. To none other than James Matthews, a hedge fund manager - and Spencer Matthews’ brother.
And of course we’d expect to see Kate in all her elegance right behind her on the aisle as bridesmaid. But as soon we began dreaming of it, we had to let the vision go, as she’s apparently unlikely to have a role in the wedding.
The reason for this is pretty ridiculous but, at the same time, logical. Those in-the-know say that the Duchess of Cambridge likely won’t play a part due to the risk of upstaging her sister.

Royals author Judy Wade told People: "Kate would upstage her sister.
“It’s a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well?”
But, unsurprisingly, things change a little when you marry into royalty.
"But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention,” Judy explained.
“Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible.”
And as Pippa has shown us herself - at Kate’s wedding, to be exact - upstaging the bride can be risky business.

Regardless, the Duchess of Cambridge said at Pippa’s engagement in the Lake District - after James traditionally asked Pippa’s dad Mike’s permission for her hand - that she is “absolutely delighted” at the news.
