Test Mode: Pat McGrath's New Mask Will Give You *That* Viral Glass Skin
You won't believe the results.
Last spring, during couture fashion week, Dame Pat McGrath broke the internet with an otherwordly makeup look. Models at the Maison Margiela show were transformed into porcelain dolls, wearing makeup inspired by the '20s and '30s, topped with an ultra-glossy, multi-step, air-brushed mixture that took over an hour to apply before it dried down to a glass-like finish.
Beauty creators went straight to work, recreating the unprecedented look using their own DIY concoctions. But McGrath didn't want the process to be so difficult. So she spent months creating a single product—Glass 001 Skin Fetish Peel-Off Artistry Mask—that allows you to recreate the iconic look with ease. But think beyond this artistic approach; while McGrath can't wait to see more takes on the Margiela look, she also wants you to incorporate the mask (which launches January 30) into your everyday routine. Because when you remove the mask, you're left with next-level, deeply hydrated skin. From porcelain doll to baby doll!
"After you peel off the mask, even if you've got full makeup on and even if you don't have makeup on, you are left with exquisite glass skin," says McGrath. The mask is "hydrating and nourishing, and it reveals a fresh skin—but it's more than a fresh skin, it's a hyper fresh skin."

Trying Glass 001 Skin Fetish Peel-Off Artistry Mask
My time at the Pat McGrath HQ started with hair. So my strands didn't get in the way, my hair was slicked back and then curled into stunning defined waves. Then, we dove right into makeup.Which was pretty similar to any another makeup application—aside from McGrath popping her head in every now and then to instruct "More shimmer!"
My artist started with my base, using a mix of brushes, sponges, and her hands to melt foundation and concealer into my skin. For my cheeks, she used a stunning coral blush and a pinky copper eyeshadow for a dose of shimmer.
Next came the eyes. We opted for a stunning mix of gold and champagne shimmers atop a soft brown base. With an eye look this bold, I'd typically add a thick winged-out line, but to keep the look soft, my artist opted for just a few coats of mascara.
For my lips, we opted for a red ombré look inspired by my cherry earrings, topped with gloss.
Now, with my makeup set, we started the mask. Once the mask comes out, you must stay perfectly still, as any facial movement will cause the mask to crack and lift. My artist applied four coats of the mask, drying between layers with a handheld fan. Applying a single layer took mere minute, but with so many layers, the full application took about 25 minutes. My artist also added a balm around my eyes so I could get the glossy look all over and retain the ability to blink.
Once the final layer of the mask dried, I had that high-shine couture look of my dreams. All I wanted to do was smile but I couldn't! Because I'd ruin it! Instead, I remained stoic and took oh so many pictures and videos.
Then came the most satisfying part—the reveal. Peeling off this mask was not only fun but freeing! After about 20 minutes of keeping my face perfectly still, I could finally smile. And I had so much to smile about. My skin looked absolutely unreal. The mask acted like the world's most hydrating setting spray. My glow was next level, and my complexion makeup remained very much intact but appeared skin-like. For the rest of the day, I felt like I was wearing an IRL filter.
