Taylor Swift's Go-To Red Lipstick Is *Finally* Back In Stock
In my time at InStyle, I've never seen it available to shop online.
Taylor Swift has been rocking her signature red lip since 2009. And while the exact shade has changed over time, she's consistency come back to a classic blueish-red hue. Since her Internet-breaking "Bejeweled" music video, she's leaned on a stunning red matte liquid lipstick from the legendary Pat McGrath that's finally back in stock.
"Taylor is the most divine collaborator and a superb director. She is meticulous, thorough, and detailed. My goal was to use makeup to communicate Taylor’s unique vision," McGrath told Elle UK. "We took her signature lip to the next level by using LiquiLUST: Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick Elson 4."

It's no surprise that Swift loves the LiquiLUST formula. It's a long-wear matte with a lightweight, velvety texture that stays put without drying out your lips. And since McGrath revealed the exact shade she used on Swift on Instagram in 2022, it's been nearly impossible to keep in stock. So much so that in my time at InStyle, I've never seen it in person nor available online. And now, you can shop it at PatMcGrathLabs.com and Sephora.com.
Swift's affinity for a red lip stems from a fateful day in 2009 with the iconic makeup artist Gucci Westman. "She’d never worn a red lip,” Westman told Elle Australia in late 2023. “When the red lip happened, I had to get permission by her mum [Andrea Swift].” She revealed that Swift's management told her, "Taylor doesn’t do red, [and] I said, ‘Well, Taylor needs to try red.'”
In the years since her first Red (Taylor's Version) encounter, she's stuck with the shade because it allows her lips to stand out. It "really helps you show emotion," Swift shared with E! News in 2010. And whether she's killing it on stage, gracing a red carpet, or cheering on boyfriend Travis Kelce at a Kansas City Chief's game, she's rocking the bold shade.
To get the best finish out of a red lipstick, ensure your lips are baby soft before application. I love to exfoliate my lips prior to applying any lip to remove dry skin,” Mariela Bagnato, professional makeup artist and founder of MBeauty, previously told InStyle.
