Taylor Swift sends fans into frenzy by releasing 15 more songs in surprise double album

Taylor Swift shocked fans with a surprise announcement just two hours after the midnight release of The Tortured Poets Department album.

The singing sensation, 34, shared a late night post at 2am to reveal that the latest release is actually a double album with an additional 15 new songs.

The pop icon first unveiled her initial 16-song album at midnight on Friday.

Two tracks are collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + The Machine, while there are also four bonus tracks, The Manuscript, The Bolter, The Albatross and The Black Dog that are featured on different vinyl versions of the album.

After the first 16 songs were made available at midnight, an unexpected countdown appeared on her website indicating something else would be announced at 2am.

Then just after 2am, Swift announced that "Tortured Poets" is, in fact, a "secret double album."

Taylor posted the announcement on Instagram. She shared: "It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album.

"I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours."

In the post, she explained that she had recorded an extra 15 tracks, which are now available in the form of The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology.

With the addition of the bonus songs, The Tortured Poets Department now boasts 31 tracks.

For many of Taylor's fans, who were still enjoying the first 16 songs, the news that yet more music had dropped sent them into a frenzy and they rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to comment.

One wrote: "I can't breathe. i can't. its all too much. to handle. Ms. Taylor you've almost killed me with this double album."

Another shared: "Is it going to be a DOUBLE TOUR too????"

A third posted: "A DOUBLE ALBUM? ARE YOU KIDDING? GIRL I'M ALREADY DYING WTF."

Taylor, who has famously released four albums in the last four years, first announced the album at the Grammy Awards in February, while accepting the award for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Friday's shock announcement is the start of what looks set to be an exciting summer for fans of the Shake It Off singer.

Besides being treated to the surprise double album, Taylor is set to bring her legendary The Eras Tour to the UK in the next few months.

With the UK leg of The Eras Tour kicking off in Edinburgh on Friday, 7 June, Taylor will also go on tour perform in cities including Liverpool and Cardiff before rounding off the string of dates and London’s Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, 20 August.

If you can't get your hands on tickets to see the show in person, you can still stream Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film from the comfort of your own home on Disney+.

The musician's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, recently teased what fans can expect from the shows, and revealed that he plans to support Taylor from the crowd.

When asked if he will be 'packing his bags' to join Taylor on tour, Travis told Entertainment Tonight: "Oh, you know I gotta go support."

While he didn't clarify which cities he will be joining her in, Travis hinted that his girlfriend's shows in London and Paris will be 'can't-miss' events.

"I think she’s at Wembley [Stadium] eight times,' he said. "Which is mind-blowing that she can do that many shows in one stadium and fill that thing up.

"And London is always an amazing city and Paris is a beautiful city and she will be all over Europe. There won’t be a bad show, I promise you that."
