With her insouciant yet trailblazing style, immaculate red carpet dressing and her signature short hair, Taylor Russell has quietly cemented herself as the ultimate cool girl. And in the latest noteworthy move to prove just that, the Bones and All star has cut her hair into a new, and ultra short, pixie cut.

Benching her trademark bob – which has taken on countless iterations of late, from a sleek hydro bob to side-parted waves – the actor just debuted what could be her shortest hairstyle to date.

After her stage debut in The Effect at London's The National Theatre, and following on from her public split with Harry Styles, Russell has been somewhat MIA on her socials this summer. A rare Instagram post yesterday changed that, where Russell revealed to the world a fresh, curly and super-short crop.

Of course, it's not the first time that Russell has been partial to a pixie crop. So popular is her hairstyle that the hashtag 'Taylor Russell pixie' has over 50 million views on TikTok with acolytes trying to emulate her signature hairstyle. It is, however, her first pixie of its kind. Both androgynous and soft, her new pixie cut showcases her natural curly hair texture and comes complete with an ultra-short, tousled micro fringe.

Popularised by the likes of Audrey Hepburn and Linda Evangelista and defined by a short layered cut, usually shorter on the sides than the top, pixie cuts have been enjoying a moment in the spotlight this year, shedding their previous connotations of being 'too brave' or 'too high-maintenance' and superseding the bob as an easier, more effortless hairstyle that sings summer.

Russell isn't the only one eschewing her bob in favour of a pixie cut: Florence Pugh, Jourdan Dunn, and EmRata are just a few of the famous faces who have also experimented with an ever shorter crop.

Perhaps it's growing fatigue of the ubiquitous bob, or the first signs of sunshine on the horizon, but pixie cuts could well take over as the crop of the summer.
