A Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton Pop-Up Has Bloomed in Soho, London
Might we call an artist who deals in flowers and tends to burgeoning talent a gardener? If so, consider Takashi Murakami the Alan Titchmarsh of the contemporary art world. When the Japanese celebutante isn't fostering future superstars (he played a part in the come-up of Kanye West and Billie Eilish, to give two examples), he's planting new seeds.
The latest to grow? A revival of his once-groundbreaking, still titillating Louis Vuitton collaboration that is today recognised as one of the hottest properties of 2000s luxury.
You can best revel in the nostalgia over in the delightful if ephemeral store that has just shot up in Soho, London.
It's also a café offering a range of hot drinks and delicate baked goods.
Plus, a repair shop where the marque's patrons are invited to allow expert craftspeople rejuvenate their vintage Murakami x LV piece. For free!
As you'd hope/expect, each room is just as animated as the collab itself.
The giant grinning flowers that populate Murakami's oeuvre occupy every patch, whether blown up to unearthly sizes to serve as wall art or realised as a cushion for your comfort.
Even more prevalent is Murakami's many-coloured edit of the Vuitton monogram which works the walls, decorates the coffee cups and, of course, endows the products on offer with evergreen flair, just as it did two decades ago.
The Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton pop-up is now open on Brewer Street in Soho, London, until Sunday 9 February.
