We're calling it: the layered haircut is this summer's go-to style. Following in the footsteps of Jodie Comer and model Kaia Gerber, Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney recently revealed fresh new layers on Instagram, courtesy of hairstylist Glen Coco.

Layered haircuts are certainly not a new trend, but we're seeing more celebrities and models embracing this classic style and giving it a modern spin. Rather than appearing choppy, the look du jour feels a lot softer and more feathery, adding fullness and bounce to the hair.

Sweeney's blonde hair, with its face-framing pieces and side part, has a '70s vibe that echos the throwback trend that's been gracing the catwalks for the past few seasons. "This style on Sydney Sweeney is flattering because the layers are well connected and blended, and can be worn in a variety of ways," says hair expert and extension specialist, Louise Bailey. The versatility and subtlety are the reasons why hairstylists often recommend adding layers in for those who what a small, yet impactful change.

Layers work on everybody; getting the right style all depends on your face shape, says Bailey. "If you have a round face, you'll want to avoid layers that are too short, as they will only accentuate the width of your face. Instead, go for longer layers that fall just below your chin," she explains. Those with longer face shapes might want to avoid long layers as they'll accentuate the length of your face. "Instead, go for shorter layers that fall just above your shoulders."

As for styling, adding in a bit of texture to the strands can make a huge difference. "This will help to give your hair some body and volume, and will prevent the layers from looking too heavy or bulky," notes Bailey.
