Sweaty Betty is empowering girls to get active and stay active

This International Women's Day marks the launch of a new initiative, The Sweaty Betty Foundation, through which the sports brand will help to support young disadvantaged women across the UK to get active and stay active.

Sweaty Betty founder Tamra Hill-Norton has created the foundation in order to help empower girls through exercise, which has a huge impact on our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. The organisation will be supporting those girls aged 10 to 18 who face the biggest barriers to being active, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. It will partner with schools and communities to inspire, motivate and support generations of young women on their journey.

According to the brand, only 10 per cent of girls aged 13 to 16 are doing the recommended amount of daily physical activity, with girls in the UK less likely to be active than boys – and this is even more apparent in girls from disadvantaged backgrounds, while the pandemic has also had a particularly negative impact on these figures.

The Sweaty Betty foundation is partnering with research and insight charity Women In Sport and the Youth Sport Trust, which is the UK’s leading charity for improving the education and development of every child through sport and play, in order to support girls in the UK. It will later expand its programme into the US.

In addition to this, Sweaty Betty has created a limited-edition set featuring an original print designed specifically for International Women’s Day, made up of letters from the words 'empower' and 'women'. 100 per cent of the profits of this collection will go towards the Sweaty Betty Foundation.
