Susanna Reid's emotional five-word statement as she weighs in on Jay Slater case on Good Morning Britain

Good Morning Britain star Susanna Reid has spoken out about missing teenager Jay Slater, who disappeared in Tenerife on Monday 17th June.

The 19-year-old was on holiday in Tenerife when he vanished, with authorities in Tenerife on their ninth day of searching for the Lancashire resident. Jay was attending a music festival when he reportedly called his friends to say that he was in the "middle of nowhere" and had one percent battery left on his phone.

His phone then cut off, with his last location showing as the Rural de Teno park - a mountainous area popular with hikers. The search continues for Jay, with authorities looking for him at tourist hotspots close to his accommodation.

Speaking about Jay's disappearance on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, Susanna Reid said that the ordeal is her "worst nightmare" as the mother of three sons - Sam, 21, Finn, 20, and Jack, 19.

"It is an utter mystery," she said. "As the mother of a teenager, three boys, it is your worst nightmare."

She added: "The call comes through, 'My phone's about to die, I don't know where I am.' And once that phone battery's gone, it's obviously impossible to trace him. Honestly, what on earth?"

Her co-star Adil Ray said: "And all the speculation and conspiracy theories, that must be really terrible for the family. It must be really hard. Suddenly your son's loss becomes everyone else's property."

Last week, Coronation Street's Vicky Entwistle shared an update on the search for Jay, revealing that he is her godmother's grandson. Urging her fans to pray for Jay's safe return, she said on social media: "I know all the authorities are pulling out all the stops to find him. Helicopters and drones etc."

She added in a separate message: "It seems everyone is looking so that gives us all some hope that he will be found."

Jay's mum Debbie has flown to Tenerife to look for her son, saying in a statement: "I'm obviously beside myself with worry which is why I've flown out here with my eldest son to do anything we can to help. We're just praying the police or someone finds Jay.

"I know there's a mountain rescue team out and a helicopter. Nothing's ever going to be enough when your youngest son's gone missing but it sounds as if the police here are taking this very seriously and doing the best job they can."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
