The Surrey home of former U.S. president Herbert Hoover has just come to the market.
Herbert and his family lived at the double-fronted Georgian property in 1902 while he was working for a London mining company, many years before becoming the 31st President of the United States in 1929.
While he only resided here briefly (his wife stayed for four years longer), the house was still mentioned in his memoirs. 'My wife searched out a small country house at Walton-on-Thames. Curiously, it was known as The White House,' he wrote.
Spanning two floors and multiple entertaining spaces, the blue plaque home retains many of its original period features, notably the decorative bay windows, fireplaces, a bell tower on the roof, and parapet walls.
Inside, there are four principal reception rooms, including well-sized drawing and dining rooms, an impressive open-plan entrance hall with a sitting area, and another large space used as a study. A smart grey Tom Howley kitchen with marble worktops completes the ground floor.
