Daily walks have been a great way to get some exercise during the lockdowns. Now, we can put that training to good use by supporting a brilliant cause.

Walk the Walk charity – which is supported by Good Housekeeping – has announced that the MoonWalk London will go ahead on May 15thas a virtual event.

So instead of walking through the centre of London you can take on a walking challenge close to home. It will be a daytime event rather than overnight, with walkers being asked for once NOT to walk in bras, but to decorate one and attach it to their bumbag instead!

TV presenter Gaby Roslin did the MoonWalk in 2019 and enjoyed it so much that she has signed up to walk 13.1 miles in this year’s virtual event. She’ll be part of a team led by actress Harriet Thorpe, who is also an ambassador for Walk the Walk.

"As a lover of walking I know how important the benefits are for both my physical and mental health, it really is the best tonic," says Gaby.

"How wonderful to be taking part in The Virtual MoonWalk London as part of my friend Harriet Thorpe’s Big Tits Team, we will be following government guidelines of course!"

The event had to be postponed in 2020 because of the pandemic – and so the charity was very keen to find a way for the event to happen in 2021. It will have an ‘Out of this world’ space theme for anyone dressing up.

Nina Barough, Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk says: "We’ve taken the decision for the health and safety of all its supporters and fundraisers to make The MoonWalk London a virtual experience.

"Covid may stop live events, but it doesn’t stop the effects of cancer. The situation for many living with cancer has become isolating and unbearable, and as anxiety increases, more and more treatments have been delayed due to lack of staff and space in hospitals. Our need to raise essential funds and to help where we can, has never been greater.

"Walk the Walk’s mission is to raise £1 million, allowing us to continue providing vital support to frontline cancer services that are needed NOW. We ask everyone to unite and, join the Virtual MoonWalk or just make a donation. Whilst we can’t come together physically, we know that many people doing a little bit is a powerful force …so let’s generate that power and in true Walk the Walk spirit, raise money, get fit and healthy, and have fun, uniting virtually together for the same incredible cause."

Entrance fee is £35 for all adults – who will get a full event pack - and £15 for under 12s taking on the 6.55 miles New Moon.

The charity has also announced that the MoonWalk Scotland is being held as virtual event on June 12th.
