The Christmas price war has officially kicked off, as supermarkets have begun dropping the cost of fresh veggies this week.

Every year, festive side trimmings such as potatoes, Brussel sprouts, carrots, swede and more are dropped to literal pennies a packet to help shoppers save money in the last stretch of the Christmas build-up.

While many are just launching their offers today (December 19), both Sainsbury's and Tesco kicked off the price war by dropping the prices across a selection of fresh veggies online and in store yesterday (December 18).

Previously, 15p was the benchmark, but many supermarkets have gone even lower this year, with Aldi and Asda leading the way at just 8p. Even better, the deal is available to all shoppers with no need for a loyalty card.

Lidl is close in third place with prices dropped even lower to just 9p, also available to all customers. Meanwhile, Morrisons does come in at fourth this year at 10p, although this is only available to More members.

Many shoppers will know that this offer is usually only available while stocks last, with many also ending on Christmas Eve. So, to make sure you don't miss out, we have provided an updated guide on all the information you need to know this year.
