Study Reveals Nation’s Hardest Working Women

New research from mobile beauty app blow LTD sheds light on just how much women work these days. Whilst it may not exactly be a shock to most of us, reading this on a phone with a mouthful of supermarket meal deal in the park on our 20 minute “lunch break”, at least we now have some facts to quote.
The study follows news of a record high of 14.6 million women in employment, up by nearly one million in the past five years. It shows that on average, women in London work 1,631 hours a year, 75 hours more than the UK’s annual average of 1,556 for women. Second place goes to Scotland with an average of 1,626 hours logged and third place to their neighbours in the North West of England with 1,570 (still 14 hours above the national average). Last place goes to the South West with an average of 1,421 (135 hours below the average).
It’s no surprise that we have to work more in the capital to afford the ever increasing rents, but with the vastly more affordable northerly parts of the country putting the rest of us to shame, it adds credibility to the myth that they do indeed breed them tougher up North.
The study goes on to helpfully conclude that along with this increase in working hours, we’ve had a decrease in free time, a phenomena they describe as ‘time poverty’. Which just goes to show, the more you work, the less free time you have. Helpful indeed.
Actually interesting however is the finding that “millennials” - that’s those aged between 22-29 - work an annual average of 1,692 hours, a whopping 136 hours more than the rest of the UK! Women aged 30-39 complete an average of 1,631 (75 hours more than the average, in line with the London women) and those between 40-49 clocking an average of 1,515 (42 hours below the average).
So next time your mum says “in my day…”, you can show her these facts whilst playing down just how much you make up for it in your weekend free time…
