Strictly's Shirley in tears as son wins DWTSBBC

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas shed a few tears after her son Mark Ballas won Dancing With The Stars.

Professional dancer Mark and his celebrity partner Charli D'Amelio were crowned the 2022 winners of DWTS on Monday (November 21), so Shirley took to social media to congratulate the pair in a heartfelt post.

The proud mum admitted to staying "up all night" to watch the finale (which came down to Mark and Charli vs The Bachelorette star Gabby Windey and her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy) and cried "tears of joy" when the former two won.

Taking to Instagram, Shirley wrote: "Oh my goodness. I couldn’t be any prouder of you both. My mum and I stayed up all night. Your dances last night were outstanding on all levels. You rehearsed, performed and fought for that mirrorball all season long and it all payed off."

Praising Charli, Shirley said: "What a beautiful young lady you are. I know you have inspired and entertained so many people around the world, your dedication to the craft of dance is what you are all about.

"Winning is testament that the audience have fallen in love with your beautiful heart and soul."

Speaking about her son Mark, she added: "I cry tears of joy to know your heart has fallen in love with dance again. Your determination to bring the best out in Charli was phenomenal. Your excellence has brought her dancing to life. Your brainstorming ideas and outstanding choreography deserve only the highest praise."

"Seeing you back on the dance floor has filled my heart with pride and joy. All I ever ask of you is work ethic beyond the universe. Do your very best at all times and do it with that magnificent heart of yours. You are and always have been my warrior." So sweet!

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows also stream on BBC iPlayer. Dancing with the Stars streams live on Disney+ in the US.
