Strictly Come Dancing professional Kai Widdrington has reunited with former celebrity partner Angela Rippon for a very special event.

The duo competed in the most recent series of the competition, coming in seventh place with Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola taking home the Glitterball Trophy.

Widdrington and Rippon enjoyed a day out in London visiting the Houses of Parliament, posing alongside House of Commons speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle following the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday (July 17).

An Instagram post from the dancer also included a selfie of the pair in Parliament Square, plus a video outside the historic building showing several members of the armed forces on horseback, with Rippon beaming as she captured the event on her phone.

Widdrington wrote in the caption: "Thank you to Mr Speaker for the invitation to the state opening of parliament. Swipe right to see @theangelarippon's delight at... the amount of beautiful kings horses there were."

One of Widdrington's followers left a comment to say that the military band in the background of their selfie was The Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines, noting that she "played in the RM band for Angela's Dad's birthday many years ago – as he was a Royal Marine."

"That was such a special day for my dad," Rippon replied. "Thank you so much for the music and making the day so memorable."

Rippon also shared a set of five photos on her Instagram page, including one of her Strictly co-star in the Houses of Parliament gift shop.

"Celebrating the State Opening of Parliament with Mr Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle and the band of HM's Royal Marines," she wrote in her caption.

"Kai even had time to do some shopping. So now Snoopy [the dog] has a very posh new lead."

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
