Strictly Come Dancing's Tom Fletcher teased by bandmate Harry Judd

Tom Fletcher has received a funny message from his McFly bandmate Harry Judd after being unveiled as the first Strictly Come Dancing contestant of 2021.

The singer-songwriter was announced to be joining Strictly during Wednesday's (August 4) edition of The One Show, where it was also revealed that comedian Robert Webb and presenter AJ Odudu have also been cast.

Fletcher is surrounded by reality royalty since his wife Giovanna Fletcher is the reigning Queen of the Jungle on I'm a Celebrity and his McFly bandmate Harry Judd previously won Strictly in 2011. Their fellow McFly star Dougie Poynter also won I'm A Celeb back in 2011, while Danny Jones appeared as a judge on The Voice Kids.

Judd joked that his pal Fletcher is under pressure when writing in to The One Show with his reaction to his bandmate's Strictly Come Dancing news.

"I'm so pleased he's doing Strictly," Harry wrote in to The One Show. "It's a win-win for me. If he wins, it's great because he's my mate and my bandmate, and I'll be so pleased for him.

"But if he doesn't win, even better, because I can always remind him of who did [win]!"

Fletcher has already been trying to downplay expectations of lifting the mirrorball trophy this year by admitting his children aren't necessarily impressed with his "dad-dancing".

"My kids were excited too until I started showing them my best dad-dancing in the kitchen," he said in a statement. "I’m not sure how far they’ll get me in the competition but I can’t wait to add some new moves to my embarrassing dad-dancing repertoire."

More Strictly Come Dancing contestants will be unveiled by the BBC in the coming days, starting with a special announcement on Zoe Ball's Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Thursday (August 5).

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One. It's due to return later in 2021.
