Strictly Come Dancing has confirmed the first celebrity contestant for the 2024.

The star-studded dance competition is set to return to screens this autumn with a brand new line-up of famous faces stepping onto the dance floor.

The first star to be officially announced is comedian Chris McCausland.

McCausland is set to make Strictly history on the hit BBC dance show as he’s the first blind contestant to take part in the competition.

The news was announced on Monday (August 5) on ITV’s This Morning.

"If anybody out there is thinking, 'How the hell is he going to do that?', then rest assured that I am thinking exactly the same thing," McCausland said. "I don't dance, I haven't danced, I can't dance, I can't see the dancing I will have to do.

"What can possibly go wrong? OK, don't answer that…!"

Fans will recognise the comedy star from panel shows such as Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You?, QI, The Last Leg, and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

McCausland has appeared on Live at the Apollo three times, hosting in 2021, a year that also saw him make his highly acclaimed debut appearance on the Royal Variety Performance.

The comedian also currently hosts his own Saturday morning ITV chat show, The Chris McCausland Show.

He has also co-written and set to star in Bad Tidings, a festive family comedy movie that will premiere on Sky this Christmas.

More celebrities taking part in this year's Strictly are set to be announced in the coming days.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
