Who is Stella Maxwell? Liam Payne and Kristen Stewart both have ties to the Victoria’s Secret model
Stella Maxwell might be best known for her role as a Victoria's Secret Angel, but the model has also made headlines for her romances with Miley Cyrus and Kristen Stewart.
Most recently Maxwell was spotted on a dinner date in Berlin with former One Directioner Liam Payne, which has led to speculation that the pair is dating.
Who is Stella Maxwell?
Stella Maxwell is a top model best known for her work as a Victoria’s Secret Angel, but she has also worked for high fashion brands including Versace, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs. The 28-year-old was born in Brussels and grew up in Belgium, but her family are originally from Belfast. At the age of 13 she moved with her family to Australia and then to Wellington in New Zealand.
While she rarely speaks openly about her sexuality, she has in the past dated Miley Cyrus and Twilight star Kristen Stewart.
Maxwell told The Fashion Spot that her career so far has been full of “so many magical moments." According to The Belfast Telegraph she was scouted while studying at Otago University in New Zealand and said, “I have always loved modelling. I used to look in magazines when I was growing up and I just thought it was such an incredible, glamorous life.”
Maxwell is signed to modelling agency The Lions NY, who also represent Irina Shayk and Agyness Deyn, and also has over 4.6 million Instagram followers with whom she shares her modelling work and behind-the-scenes glimpses of her life.
Did Stella Maxwell and Kristen Stewart have a relationship?
Maxwell previously dated Twilight star Kristen Stewart. Varying reports have claimed that the pair began dating between the end of 2016 and early 2017, however Us Weekly reported that the former couple split in November 2018 with one source saying “the relationship had run its course”.
A source told E! News, “Kristen and Stella are still in touch, but decided it was best to see other people. They started to disagree on things and it stopped being fun. Kristen went to Germany to film and they realized that the relationship had run its course and they needed a change.”
Towards the end of 2018, Stewart was in Germany to film a reboot of Charlie’s Angels starring alongside Elizabeth Banks (who also serves as director and screenwriter), Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’s Noah Centineo.
Maxwell had a number of high profile engagements of her own in the same period, including the Victoria’s Secret show which took place in late November.
"It wasn't making sense for them to stay together,” E!’s source continued, “They are still friendly and run in the same circle of friends. But Kristen is happy to be back out there and meeting new people."
Stewart is now reportedly dating stylist and blogger Sara Dinkin. The pair has been seen out and about in Los Angeles, though they are yet to confirm a relationship.
Is Stella Maxwell dating Liam Payne?
While Maxwell and Payne have not confirmed a romance, they were spotted in Berlin having a meal together in late April. The Sun reported that they had dinner at the Grill Royal Restaurant together, joined by a small group, as they both had work in the country.
“They’re both similar ages and bonded over their experiences in showbiz,” a source explained, “they were seen deep in thought at the dinner and were clearly having a good time. Who knows where this could lead?”
This isn’t the first time the pair has been spotted together, as The Sun also claimed they both attended Edward Enninful’s birthday party. They were also at Coachella over the same weekend this year, though it isn't clear if they attended together.
How long has Stella Maxwell been a Victoria’s Secret model?
Maxwell first walked for Victoria’s Secret in 2014, but it wasn’t until 2015 that she was officially announced as a VS Angel, joining other newcomers including Barbara Palvin, Elsa Hosk and Jasmine Tookes.
She told Glamour, “Being a Victoria’s Secret Angel has really built up my confidence. It’s such an exciting thing to be able to do as a model. It’s the best thing you can possibly do. It’s such a special feeling, that it’s something so hard to actually describe.”
“Every year you get more and more confident" she continued, "I am getting more used to it. It is like playing a role, you have to get into character. I bring a lot of my personality to it as well, so I try to get the balance right – of being myself, representing the brand, whilst feeling sexy, confident and empowering women.”
