'Squid Game' Season 3 Finally Has A Release Date
Hot off the heels of Squid Game season two's release (anybody else still recovering?), Netflix has finally revealed details of the highly-anticipated third — and final — season, which will be released on June 27.
That's not all: the streaming service also announced what we can expect from the third season of Squid Game. 'Picking up where the second season left off, season three explores the choices Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will make amidst overwhelming despair,' the official logline of the third season reads. 'As the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) plots his next move, the surviving players find their decisions leading to increasingly dire consequences with each round of the deadly games. This season promises to push the limits of suspense and drama, keeping viewers glued to the action.'

Squid Game season two became Netflix's third most-watched series ever, garnering 68 million views upon its debut — breaking the record for the most views in a premiere week — and ranking number one in the top non-English TV series list across 92 countries.
Squid Game could have easily ended after one season. In fact, that’s what the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, intended. 'I had no intention of doing a second season, because the overall process of writing, producing and directing the series was so challenging. I didn’t think to do another one,' he told Variety. (He even reportedly lost several teeth from stress.) And yet, Netflix squeezed not only one but two more seasons out of him by financially compensating him. 'Even though the first series was such a huge global success, honestly I didn’t make much,' he told the BBC in November. 'So doing the second series will help compensate me for the success of the first one too.' He added, 'And I didn’t fully finish the story.'
He first had the idea for Squid Game 15 years ago, for a two-hour film that never saw the light of day, according to the Associated Press. He later brought the idea for a series to Netflix, where it really took off. After all this time, it must be satisfying to bring the story to a proper close. 'I learned that I shouldn’t give up. If you love something and if you want to create something, it might not work now, but the time might come later. Or that idea could be the source of inspiration for something else,' Hwang told AP.
