Geri Halliwell-Horner, former Spice Girl, has landed a role in the film adaptation of the bestselling racing video game Gran Turismo.

That's right, Ginger Spice is heading to Hollywood, for arguably her biggest acting role since 1997's Spice World.

Although she has dabbled in acting a little over the years she hasn't really broken into the acting world properly – if that's her aim – but this is a big film, with an experienced cast, so it may mark a turning point in her career.

The Gran Turismo movie is based on the true story of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racing driver.

See star Archie Madekwe is playing the young teen racing fanatic, while Stranger Things' David Harbour is set to play a retired driver who teaches him how to drive an actual car.

Geri will be playing the young gamer's mother, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In real life, Geri's husband Christian Horner is a former racing driver and is now team principal of Red Bull's Formula 1 team, so she definitely has experience in the world of racing.

Also starring in the movie are Lord of the Rings' Orlando Bloom, Black Adam's Djimon Hounsou, Indiana Jones star Thomas Kretschmann and Never Have I Ever star Darren Barnet.

The movie is directed by Neill Blomkamp, who is best known for the sci-fi movie District 9.

Meanwhile, the script will be co-written by Jason Hall, who earned an Oscar nomination for best adapted screenplay for Bradley Cooper's American Sniper, and Zach Baylin.

Gran Turismo will be released on August 11, 2023.
