STORY: :: Gazans long for reconstruction and a return to 'life' as they hope for a ceasefire announcement:: January 15, 2025:: Khan Younis, Gaza:: Hanan Bargouth, Displaced woman from Gaza City:: "I hope, God willing, that the news of the truce that we hear about, God willing, is true and we return to our homes and our places safely, that things resolve a little and life returns to the way it was before, and better. I hope that our children return to their schools and return to their old lives. Enough suffering and pain. Enough... We didn't live, I mean, a year or two of our lives has been wasted for nothing.":: Mohammad al-Masri, Displaced pharmacist from Beit Nanoun:: "Our hearts have reached our throats. We have reached a stage where we cannot move forward now. We want to conclude the exchange deal and conclude the truce agreement to save what can be saved. Each of us must wear a life jacket after this war, after these massacres, after the destruction and devastation. Everything has been destroyed. Nothing in Gaza is fit for life."Negotiators were trying on Tuesday to clinch agreement on the final details of a ceasefire in Gaza after marathon talks in Qatar, with the involved parties saying a deal was closer than ever. Both Egypt and the U.S. are mediators in the talks.U.S. President Joe Biden, whose administration has been taking part alongside an envoy of President-elect Donald Trump, has said a deal was close. The White House said the two leaders also discussed surging humanitarian aid in Gaza where Israel's military assault in the last 15 months has killed over 46,000 Palestinians, according to the local health ministry, while also triggering accusations of genocide and war crimes that Israel denies. The assault has also displaced nearly Gaza's entire 2.3 million population and caused a hunger crisis.
