- How hot is it going to?

SPENCER MATTHEWS: Be it's going to be kind of in the mid-40s.

- Oh, jeez.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: So [INAUDIBLE].

- And you're running mostly on sand?

SPENCER MATTHEWS: It has to be 100% on sand.

- It's all sand.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: So--

- It's all sand.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: If my feet leave sand at any point, that marathon for that day is void.

- [GASPS]

SPENCER MATTHEWS: And for it to be a world record, the 30 have to be consecutive. So I'm working with incredible people.

- Sure.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: And a local team in Jordan. And we'll design the route well ahead of being there, of course. But yeah, the entire 1,266 kilometers has to be in sand.

- All in sand.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: Which, of course, makes it that bit harder.

- Oh, just a bit. For goodness sake! Now, you mentioned physically and mentally pushing yourself. An awful lot of it is going to do with mind over matter. Of course, you have to be fit. Of course, you have to be thrown, as we would call it in Scotland. But it's all about what's going on up here as well, isn't it?

SPENCER MATTHEWS: I think so, I think so. It's the time away from family as well. Obviously, my wife's over--

- Yeah, she is.

SPENCER MATTHEWS: Time away from family, so-- and bits and bobs. But you know, I honestly feel like I learn an awful lot about myself when I do these things. It's always nice to use whatever platform I have to try and do good.
