Spencer Matthews has joked the wrong person got the credit for his Celebrity MasterChef cheating controversy.

The former Made in Chelsea star was involved in a scandal of sorts during last year's series after he was alleged to have had secret cooking lessons with multi-Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.

However, appearing on Sunday Brunch on Sunday (January 6), Spencer conceded that he did indeed get cooking tips ahead of the series, but not from Novelli as was claimed - and instead from his friend James Lowe.

It follows a similar response Spencer made to the claims on his Twitter page back in September.

Speaking about the cheating scandal, Spencer said: “I’d never heard of the bloke until the article came out.

"Honestly, I got help off a pal, but it wasn’t him. So that whole thing really confused me, because Jean-Christophe Novelli, he was saying it was true – I’ve never met him.

"Never heard of him, prior to that. My friend James Lowe felt very deflated – James Lowe helped me cheat.

“I think if you want to compete in any competition, it quite helps to pick up some tips.”

On a more positive note, Spencer recently welcomed his first child with Vogue Williams in September last year.

He and Vogue will also appear in new E4 reality series Spencer & Vogue: Adult(ish) later this month.

So, fingers crossed this cheating debacle can finally be put to bed.

Sunday Brunch airs on Sundays on Channel 4.
