Spanish holidaymakers warned as country issues rare alerts and advisory notices
Spanish tourists are being warned of heavy rain and storms which are set to batter the country this week.
The country have been placed under yellow and amber alerts for several days due to the severe weather forecasted. On Monday, the country’s national weather agency, Aemet, issued a rare special advisory to alert locals and tourists of the hazardous conditions.
Yesterday yellow warnings for rain were in place along the coastline, including Valencia and Gandia. These were then increased to amber levels for parts of Valencia after 100mm of rain was expected to fall in just 12 hours.

There are yellow coastal warnings in place for Barcelona and Tarragona. Winds of up to 60km/h and waves of 4m were announced by forecasters on Monday . Locals in Majorca's north-east-coast have also been told of a yellow warning for rain.
In the south of Spain, Malaga is covered by an amber warning for rain while yellow warnings for storms and rain are in force for Huelva and Seville, reports Manchester Evening News.
Aemet issued an advisory notice for meteorological phenomenon, which came into force yesterday, March 3, and is in place until ‘at least’ March 6. These notices are usually issued during extreme weather.
It warns of ‘heavy or very heavy and persistent showers’ with a probability of 40 - 70 per cent.
Forecasting yesterday, Aemet said: “The situation of instability persists with predominantly cloudy or very cloudy skies with widespread precipitation, mainly in the south and east of the peninsula, which may be heavy and/or persistent in parts of the southwest of Andalusia, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Costa del Sol (in these areas accompanied by storms and hail) and between Cabo de la Nao and the Ebro.”
By Tuesday, some warnings have been removed, although yellow warnings remain for rain in Valencia and Castellon along the Mediterranean coast.
Forecasters said: “During Tuesday, instability will persist in the east of the peninsula, with cloudy skies, which will tend to partially clear in the western half, and precipitation that will mainly affect the east of the peninsula, which may be intense and/or persistent again in Valencia and Castellón.”
Although no warnings are currently in force for Wednesday, March 5, rain is still forecast along the Mediterranean coast.
