The Southernmost House in the Continental U.S. Just Hit the Market for $18.5 Million

From white-sand beaches to Everglades National Park, the Florida Keys are a 125-mile chain of islands stemming from the tip of Florida. Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to the archipelago, having recently purchased a $13.5 million waterfront estate in Summerland Key. But out of all 800 keys, experts at Travel + Leisure still dub Key West as its “ultimate island.” The ranking may be tied to the fact that it includes the continental U.S.’s southernmost point, and now the country’s southernmost home can be yours for $18.5 million.

Set adjacent to the iconic buoy marker, the landmark residence at 400 South Street sits on a 17,000-square-foot lot along America’s furthest southern edge. Five beds and baths span its 4,008-square-feet of living space, plus one powder room. Its fanciest amenities range from a chef’s kitchen to a Florida room, alongside waterfront views where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Gulf of Mexico. All that and the Southernmost Beach can also be accessed on the same block. Ellen Gvili of Ocean Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.

400 South Street sunroom
The Florida Room looks out over the pool toward the ocean.

A plaque featured at the front of the two-story home serves as a reminder that you’re living in one of America’s most distinguished digs. Verdant foliage and towering palm trees trail the pathway to its front door. Inside, the formal living room with a fireplace sits just ahead of the Florida room, aka the light-filled sunroom with sliding glass doors that open out to the pool deck.

Elsewhere, the chef’s kitchen features modern appliances like double Viking stovetops and ovens, as well as a Sub-Zero fridge beneath a vaulted ceiling. A wooden island with breakfast bar seating anchors the kitchen, near a quaint dining area and sitting area with a stunning view. Take the stairs or private elevator in the living room to the upstairs primary suite, which features a spacious balcony. Two other bedrooms on the upper level feature wooden shutters for modulating light and air, and one of them has a bathroom lined with funky green tiles.

The eye-catching U.S. location marker.

The 50-by-20-foot swimming pool spans a designated area of the backyard, which includes a spacious lounge area for sunbathing. Even more unique, one corner of the grounds features a mosaic-style indication where North America and the United States start with embedded text that reads “North America Begins Here.” Signs on the low wall mark the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Part of the estate does need a complete renovation, according to the listing, and it also comes with an approval letter from the Army Corps of Engineers for the addition of a substantial dock, leaving important decisions about updates and personalizations up to you.
