This Smart Soda Can Hack Doubles the Storage Space in Your Closet
Unless you’re lucky enough to have a custom closet with ample shelves and storage, space is of the essence in most closets. This is even more true if you have a small closet. Shoes and clothing will inevitably spill out occasionally, which is why regular decluttering is always a good idea no matter the closet size.
But if space for clothing is still hard to find even after a thorough decluttering session, then try this easy (and supercheap!) storage hack for clothing. You only need a tab from the top of a soda (or seltzer water) can. Yes, that’s right. A soda can tab saves you space in a cramped closet!
Beatriz Santos (@makelifesimpler_) shared this smart soda can tab hack on Instagram. Simply snap a soda can tab off the top of the can, thread the top of a hanger through the top slot of the tab, and then add another hanger to the bottom slot in the tab. Voilà! Hangers are neatly paired together.
This is perfect for prepping an outfit for the next day or doubling the space in a closet. No matter how tightly clothes are jammed in, only a set number of hangers will actually fit on a closet clothes rod. For this reason, all space has to be used, and this trick uses the vertical space beneath the closet bar.
I like to prepare my wardrobe for the next day and stow everything from tops, bottoms, shoes, and even jewelry in one designated spot so I don’t have to make any decisions about outfits in the early morning hours. It’s the same idea with the soda can tab.
With outfits paired together, you can be ready for the day ahead. You can even prepare for the entire week and put together five sets of outfits. It’ll all be kept together, plus more space is maximized and saved with fewer hangers hanging on the closet rack.
If you needed an excuse to sit back and pop that soda (or seltzer water!) top, you now have it. Plus, using a simple soda can tab is a savvy and economical hack to keep outfits together, maximize closet space, and save time.
