Skyscanner reveals 'huge price drop' to these travel destinations in 2024

The weather is getting cooler and the days are getting shorter which can only mean one thing: it’s time to start thinking about your 2024 holidays.

With the cost of living crisis putting us all in a pinch, travelling on a budget has never been more important. This is why Skyscanner’s list of the best budget destinations for 2024 could not have come at a better time.

The flight comparison tool included the list as part of its 2024 trends report, which also detailed the top trending destinations for next year.

To find the best value destinations, Skyscanner looked at its own data and found the places which have seen the biggest price drop in air fares over the past year.

Portugal’s Faro, along the country’s popular Algarve coast, came in at the top spot after seeing a 24% drop in flight prices.

This was followed by Algiers in Algeria with a 23% decrease in flight prices, Nice in France at 19%, and Turey’s Dalaman and Antalya with a 13% and 12% price drop respectively.

Completing the top 10, Switzerland’s Zurich saw an 11% price drop in flights, followed by Boston (10%), Los Angeles (10%) and New York (9%) in the US, and Frankfurt (9%) in Germany.

  3. Nice, France - 19% price drop

  4. Dalaman, Turkey - 13% price drop

  5. Antalya, Turkey - 12% price drop

  6. Zurich, Switzerland - 11% price drop

  7. Boston, US - 10% price drop

  8. Los Angeles, US - 10% price drop

  9. Frankfurt, Germany - 9% price drop

  10. New York, US - 9% price drop

The research found that there are several trending destinations that have seen the biggest increase in searches over the past year.

This includes Vigo in Spain, which has seen a 1,235% increase in searches, Leipzig in Germany (545%), Rimini in Italy, (362%), Bydgoszcz in Poland (313%), and Sapporo in Japan (276%).

Japan’s Osaka and Tokyo have also been listed among 2024’s trending destinations, with a 231% ad 208% year-on-year search increase respectively.

Nates in France was listed among the top 10 with a 229% increase, as was Thailand’s Chiang Mai (221%) and Denmark’s Billund (219%).

The report added that the driving choices for holiday destinations next year are weather (69%), food (57%) and culture (53%).
