The Simone Biles And MyKayla Skinner Olympics Drama Explained

All it took was six words for the drama to escalate from the stadiums of the Paris Olympics to the infinite swirl of Internet dissection. Simone Biles, who helped team United States to a team gold for the third time in four Olympics on Wednesday, shared a photograph with her teammates with a simple six-word caption that spoke volumes: 'lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions'.

However, it would seem that things might not be all sunshine and roses for the team of gymnasts, with many interpreting Biles' caption to be a subtle dig at MyKayla Skinner, Biles' former Olympic gymnastics teammate.

In a now-deleted YouTube video, Skinner said the 2024 gymnasts just weren’t as hardworking and talented as they used to be. In her video, according to People, Skinner reportedly said: 'Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.'

It doesn't stop there. Commenting on the Instagram post, former Olympic gymnast, McKayla Maroney, said, 'It doesn’t get more iconic than this.. She f’d around n found out fr.' Maroney concluded, 'Feels like I need to apologise just to redeem my first name.'

Skinner then posted a picture of the team with red heart emojis to her Instagram story. The following day however, Biles and her fellow teammate Jordan Chiles revealed that Skinner blocked Biles on Instagram, crushing hopes for a reunion.
