There’s nothing better than getting in after a long day, kicking off your shoes and sliding your feet into a comfortable pair of slippers. But why restrict yourself to those levels of comfort indoors, when the new generation of slippers are also sturdy enough to take outside?

Birkenstock, UGG and Crocs have long specialised in the indoor-outdoor hybrid slider and now sleep brand Simba has entered the chat with its chic new slipper range.

The bedding brand certainly knows a thing or two about the importance of building comfort and cosiness into its products. Its products all appear in our best mattresses, best pillows and best duvet roundups. Now, it's taken cushioning comfort out of the bedroom and integrated it into the slipper. One that claims to massage your feet as you walk.

Sounds dreamy but did it live up to our expectations? One writer slipped them on to find out.

Simba slippers: What you need to know

Do they really massage your feet?

Let’s quickly establish that there’s no comparing a pair of slippers to a deep-tissue 90-minute foot massage in a spa. *Cue groans of despair from some, and sighs of relief from the ticklish community*. They do, however, offer some of the same wonderful benefits as a good old foot rub.

Simba says the design was inspired by traditional reflexology methods – the ancient Chinese belief that there are nine pressure points in your feet, each corresponding to different body parts. When these targeted areas are massaged, blood circulation increases, which can ease any aches and pains and even help manage stress.

The new slippers feature nine gel-filled pressure points lining the base, which gently massage as you step out. Now that’s one smart house shoe.

What are the Simba Slippers made from?

There are three layers to the comfort offered by these cosy slippers. First, there’s the cushioned leather insole, lined with those nine gel pockets of pressure relief. Then there’s the lightweight midsole, made from a cork-effect material for both aesthetic purposes and to align with the natural shape of your foot, for ultimate comfort.

Finally, there’s the outer rubber sole, which makes them extra resilient for both indoor and outdoor use. We’re totally wearing them to the local shop.

How to clean your Simba slippers

If you’re wearing them inside and out, there are a few cleaning tips worth following to keep your new footwear looking fresh for as long as possible.

“Above all, follow the care label instructions when cleaning your slippers,” says Good Housekeeping’s Household Advice Editor, Katie Mortram. “Use a shoe cleaner suited to the material and air dry in an open, ventilated space. Apply a relevant protector spray, again making sure it's suited to the material. And avoid wearing outdoors when mud and puddles are likely.”

Complete your comfy chic look with a luxury dressing gown and cosy pyjamas, although we’re not sure you’ll get away with wearing these out of the house as easily...

These slippers are the ultimate combination of style and comfort. The open back and soft front means they’re non-restrictive on the toes, and everything’s pulled together with a stylish buckle detail. There’s more than a whiff of the Birkenstock about them, but they come with those added massage benefits, combining style with substance.

Our homes writer Megan Geall has been wearing them for a couple of months now and they’ve become a core part of her WFH uniform. Do they live up to their comfort claims? “My Simba slippers have genuinely changed my life,” she told us. So that’s a resounding yes.

“They now never leave my feet and have become more like an extension of me than just slippers. I honestly rave about them to everyone – they're super comfortable and the gel support points are really soothing on the soles of my feet,” she adds.

"I love that you can wear them both inside and out thanks to the sturdy rubber sole, which means I don't need to switch into shoes when I'm hanging the washing out. The price point is quite high but the quality is worth it – I've worn them every day (and for every waking hour that I'm at home) for months and they still look brand new.”

You can pair them with some socks for a perfect year-round treat for your feet.

Rok Slipper

Made from a mix of ultra-soft merino wool and leather, these mule-like slippers will put style and comfort into every step. The stitching and structured square front mean they look smart while keeping your toes toasty. We’re big fans of the light beige shade but the darker grey colourway may be more suited to outdoors.

Ylur slipper

If you prefer an open-toe slipper, then the Ylur are the pick for you. The sandal-like design makes them a great summer option for pottering in the garden or cruising the coastline on staycation. The only question is, to sock and sandal, or not?
