The side parting is back (sorry, Gen Z): celeb hairdressers say this is how to style the look
For years, Gen Z was more than happy to poke fun at all things millennial – whether it was their unwavering devotion for Harry Potter, their fondness for trainer socks, or obsession with avocado toast. But when it came to beauty, it was the side parting that they declared hopelessly passé.
But just when we thought it was officially buried in the style graveyard, the side parting is making a quiet, yet undeniable comeback. From Julia Fox's androgynous side part pixie crop, to Gracie Abraham's sleek and sultry side parting, the millennial-loved has made a grand return, and we're not mad about it.
'Like every trend it has come back full circle,' says Hasan Sahin, Stylist at Larry King Marylebone, who has noticed the style being sported by celebrities as well as his clients.
Tempted to try the style but not sure which side parting is best? 'Personally I like an extreme side parting style using gel and lots of hairspray so it’s glossy, sleek and flat to the head,' says Sahin, adding that his go to product for achieving a sleek side parting is the Larry King Flyaway Kit.
Elsewhere, celebrity Stylist Luke Hersheson adds that if you're after a modern iteration, 'try a side parting that angles very slightly towards the crown. This is always more flattering on the face as it’s softer and more feminine than if you go straight back and lower down the head. Side partings tend to typically be boyish and lean towards an androgynous look.'
