Sheridan Smith to star in David Walliams' Gangsta Granny Strikes Again this Christmas
In great news for family viewing this Christmas, Sheridan Smith is joining the cast of the BBC's adaptation of David Walliams' children's book, Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!, due to air as a six part series this Christmas on BBC One and CCBC.
It's the book and screen sequel to 2013's Gangsta Granny, the first story Walliam's incredibly successful series. Archie Yates is set to play the young protagonist Ben, Sheridan is to play his mother Linda while David takes on the role of father Mike.
Sheridan shared the news on Instagram writing in the caption: "On @bbcone this Christmas! 💃🏼🕺🏽🎄 playing the wife of @dwalliams and mum of @archieyatesofficial 🥳❤️❤️ having so much fun filming this one! Xx"
And in classic Walliams style the star commented on the announcement of his screen wife; "Oh no. I had no idea."
Kevin Bishop is also in the cast as Italian dancer Flavio, while Maggie Steed is to play the the Queen. The new series is set a year after the film left off, with Ben dealing with the loss of his beloved Gran and looking back on their Crown Jewel heist adventure.
The BBC Synopsis says of the story; "[Ben] is stunned to learn another spate of thefts are beginning to occur – with all the clues pointing to The Black Cat, better known to Ben as Granny! Surprising? Yes. Impossible? Maybe. Viewers should expect the unexpected as they are once again taken on a wildly entertaining ride that sees Ben attempt to unravel the mystery of just who is The Black Cat."
We can't wait to see the hilarious pair in action as a married couple on our tellies this Christmas!
