The Great British Sewing Bee's star Patrick Grant has shared his career-defining moments with fans as well as what keeps him motivated today.

In video posted on the Sewing Bee's Instagram account the judge talked us through how he started his career on Savile Row and the designers who inspired him.

While Patrick is now the director of Community Clothing and textile manufacturer Cookson & Clegg, he initially studied engineering, completing a degree in Material Science and Engineering at Leeds, followed by a masters in Business Administration at Oxford.

He says: "I started my career Savile Row very late, I was in my early 30s. I worked as the under cutter and I did all the kind of trimmings, cutting, striking – all that kind of stuff in the workshop and I loved it.

"Savile Row was the place to me that was three amazing things: it was amazing clothes, amazing crafts and amazing stories and histories."

He went on to reveal that his career-defining moment was winning the Menswear Designer award at the British Fashion Awards in 2010, adding: "I beat Paul Smith, and Burberry and Margaret Howell and was astonished and it was an amazing day."

Aside from his love of fashion and iconic designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul Gaulter, the Sewing Bee star also revealed that he was really into sports. He says: "When I was young I was really sporty. I was into sport and I was weirdly into fashion. It was an odd combination. I was a big fan of rugby."

Now he is motivated by preserving the craftsmanship and skills in the UK textile and clothing sector, adding: "I run a business that is all about making great clothes but more importantly, preserving and actually creating lots and lots of really good jobs. So that what motivates me the most."

Fans were quick to comment on the post, praising Patrick for how inspiring his words are, with @claire_north commenting "So interesting to hear more about Patrick - what a gent." and @mrsshellismail commenting "Love Patrick, he's the best".

We can't wait to see Patrick judge the Sewing Bee final!
