'Severance' Fans Were Right About E4’s Twist Apple

I must hand it to Severance fans. It’s not often that one of their theories comes true. Over on the r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus Reddit page, fans throw out everything from Lumon is turning humans into food! to Eagan is building himself a clone army! But after the first episode of season 2, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed inconsistencies in Helly R.’s (Britt Lower) behavior during her return to the Macrodata Refinement (MDR) team. Episode 4 finally proved their theory correct.

At the end of the latest episode, Irving (John Turturro) has a prophetic dream during the Outdoor Retreat Team Building Occurrence (ORTBO). It’s possible that his mind searched through theories on r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus, because he wakes up and immediately tracks down Helly R. and proves that she is Helena Eagan. The Lumon CEO’s daughter was pretending to be her Innie and blending in with the group on the severed floor. Why, you ask? It’s possible that she was spying on them, or she just wanted to know why her Innie fell in love with Mark (Adam Scott). Either way, Helly R. was Helena Eagan.

“THAT IS SO HELENA HOLY F**K HER FACIAL EXPRESSION CHANGE WHEN IRVING CONFRONTED HER,” one Reddit user wrote in all caps after the episode. Another chimed in with Irving’s line, “HELLY WAS NEVER CRUEL.”

Props to Reddit user Altruistic-Sky747 for figuring this one out at the very beginning of season 2. They are far from the only fan I’ve seen who predicted the twist, but they seemed the most excited to find out that they were correct. “I suspected she was Helena the whole episode, from the very moment she didn't hug Mark back immediately,” they wrote. “Seeing her fumble the computer switch was the last confirmation I needed. It's gonna get SO ugly when the truth comes out.”

Boy, did it get ugly! After Irving threatens to drown Helena in a pond near Woe’s Hollow, Mr. Milchick fires Irving. For Innies, termination is death.

“You were 100% right and now I’m kicking myself for not figuring this out,” another user commented after the episode. “It all makes sense now.”

Take your victory lap, Severance fans. The craziness won't stop here.
