September Holidays and Observances to Celebrate Every Day
When you think of September holidays, the main holiday that comes to mind is Labor Day on the first Monday (time for a cookout!). But that’s only the beginning, because 30 days hath September—and there are special days, observances, and events to fill every one of ’em. Here are some of our favorites:
Bison-ten Yell Day (September 2), because you know we love a good pun. This day is always the 200th anniversary, or bicentennial, of whatever you wish (say it aloud, and you’ll get it.) Fastforward a couple of weeks and it’s time for the full Harvest Moon on September 17—in Chinese culture, it is celebrated with the harvesttime Mooncake Festival!
We also remember some of our all-time favorite creators on the anniversary of their birthdays (American folk artist Grandma Moses on the 7th, and children’s author Roald Dahl on the 13th). And speaking of favorite people, don’t forget Grandma and Grandpa for Grandparents Day on the 8th (it’s always the Sunday after Labor Day).
The autumn equinox marks first official day of fall on September 22, meaning sweater weather is near! Days devoted to some of our favorite fall foods are aptly timed, including acorn squash on the 7th and dumplings on the the 26th.
