A Sense of Home Launches Home Kit Initiative for L.A. Fire Victims, With Support From Ted Sarandos and Nicole Avant

Nonprofit organization A Sense of Home is starting a new initiative to support survivors of the L.A. fires who have lost everything.

The group — which for the last decade has been dedicated to preventing homelessness by creating first-ever homes and a community for youth aging out of foster care — is launching Home Bank LA, which will offer survivors comprehensive home kits with essentials for families and individuals. Each home kit includes over 300 items, such as furniture, kitchenware, bedding, cleaning supplies, health and hygiene products and other household necessities. Impacted individuals and families can apply at HomeBankLA.org for these kits to turn their temporary housing into a home.

“Home Bank LA launched today as an extension of A Sense of Home  — which through its one of a kind proprietary software, perfected the systems of collecting and distributing furniture and home goods, gathering volunteers turning empty spaces into homes in 90 minutes,” Georgie Smith, CEO and founder of A Sense of Home, said in a statement. “We have quickly adapted our systems and infrastructure to provide urgently needed services to those whose lives have been devastated by the fires. As our community members move into rentals and temporary housing, we will provide over 300 items color-coded by rooms that will enable a small group to fully furnish a home in only 90 minutes. We provide everything from the bed to the toothbrush to the sofa.”

Nicole Avant, who serves as A Sense of Home’s Board Emeritus, and her husband, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, were the first to pledge a financial contribution to Home Bank LA upon the initiative’s launch; HGTV star Drew Scott has also pledged early support.

“Ted and I have been supporting A Sense of Home since its inception 10 years ago and have witnessed firsthand their efficiency and ability to impact people in need,” Avant added in a statement. “No organization is more uniquely equipped to execute the task of helping furnish homes for the displaced. This is all done at no cost to those affected and I hope you will join us in supporting this urgent initiative.”
