In today's episode of celebrities feeling like they have to explain things they shouldn't have to explain to anyone... Selena Gomez reminds the world that there are many reasons why people's body size and shape can change.

The singer and actress, 30, went live on a TikTok Live session to briefly open up about body image, in response to continued social media speculation about her appearance following her appearance at the Golden Globes and on the cover of Vanity Fair's Hollywood Issue.

'I just wanted to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going through and nobody knows the real story. I just want people to know that you’re beautiful and you’re wonderful,' she told her 46.1 million followers on the app.

She then offered fans an explanation as to her changing appearance (which, let's be clear, she owes no one).

Selena has spoken openly about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and lupus - a chronic condition of the immune system which, according to the NHS, causes joint pain, tiredness and skin rashes, headaches and hair loss. While it has no cure, symptoms can be improved if treatment starts early.

And, she explained, the medication she uses to control symptoms causes weight fluctuation.

'I tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally, and then when I’m off of it, I tend to kind of lose weight,' she said.

And, she reminded viewers, that's not what's most important.

'We have days when we might feel like shit, but I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself. And my medications are important, and I believe they are what helps me.'

This isn't the first time the 30-year-old has felt she had to respond to people who analysed and shamed her body.

After the Golden Globes she explained that she had gained a little weight after (shock horror) enjoying herself over the festive period.

And last spring she opened up about the impossible body standards women are held to, while showcasing an impressive takeaway order.

'I don’t care about my weight because people bitch about it anyways,' she said in the oft-quoted clip. '"You’re too small", "You’re too big", "That doesn’t fit". Bitch, I am perfect the way I am.'

Selena decided to cut short this recent address to her body shamers after she was interrupted by viewers applying cowboy hat and moustache filters.

'This is getting a little too … much,' she said as she blocked the filters by putting a hand over her face. 'I just wanted to tell you I love you guys, and thanks for supporting me.'
