A solid 24 years after Sex And The City was first up and running (across NYC sidewalks in Manolo Blahniks, ofc), And Just Like That became our favourite TV show last year.
In between the drama of Kim Cattrall's exit and Steve and Miranda's scandal, we were completely hooked on the revival, which ran from late 2021 into February 2022. All of which means, we're very into the idea of a second season, which has been confirmed. Here's everything we know about And Just Like That series 2 from release date, cast, trailer and more.
Has And Just Like That season 2 started production?
It looks like work on S2 has officially started, with Sarah Jessica Parker sharing a first look at the And Just Like That season two script. The actress posted a pic of the first episode script, titled 'Episode 201', on Instagram, and it all feels very exciting.
SJP teased in the caption, "Just this much. For now. X, SJ."
And now the first pictures from the And Just Like That set have been released with Carrie and Charlotte taking to the streets of New York.
Carrie is pictured wearing a grey jumpsuit and a JW Anderson pigeon clutch bag, which is giving us a major flashback to the time Mr Big gave Carrie the Judith Leiber swan bag.
Sarah Jessica Parker also shared an up-close picture from the set on her Instagram with a focus on the pigeon bag, of course.
She captioned her picture: "First exterior. Streets of NY. X, SJ"
Who will star in season 2 of And Just Like That?
Considering they shared the happy news about season two, we can assume both Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon will appear in the new series and after she was spotted on set with SJP, Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, will also be in the second series.
But the BIG news is that Aidan Shaw(!!) aka Carrie Bradshaw's former partner is set to make a comeback for a major season two character arc. According to Deadline, "Aidan Shaw (played by John Corbett) will reunite with former love Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) on HBO Max’s And Just Like That…," and he is supposedly "set for a substantial, multi-episode arc on the second season of the Sex and the City follow up."
And Sarah Jessica Parker basically confirmed the news herself in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. When asked if Aidan would be returning, SJP said: "Could be, could be. Well, you know, I can’t be like, cryptic about it anymore." Sounds like a yes to us.
The news follows a fairly awkward saga that surrounded season one, when Corbett previously said he'd been approached to star in the revival, only for the show's creators to say the conversation actually never happened. Awks.
When it comes to the wider cast, it's fairly unclear who might appear in a follow up. So far it's been confirmed Evan Handler, Sara Ramirez and Alexa Swinton will all be appearing in the next season after they all shared pictures on their individual Instagram accounts from the And Just Like That season two table read.
Fans are hoping the likes of Mario Cantone, Evan Handler, David Eigenberg and Cathy Ang will be around as supporting cast.
Then there's also a question mark over whether we'll see Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, and of course, the man Carrie snogged at the end of the season one finale - Franklyn, played by Ivan Hernandez.
When was season 2 of And Just Like That been confirmed?
Good news, Sex And The City fans! Season two of And Just Like That was officially confirmed on 22nd April, almost two months after the final episode of season one aired. News broke on social media that we'd be joining Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda in NYC once again.
"And just like that, we're coming back for season two," the announcement video read with the caption, "hello again, lovers…"
Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie, added, "@justlikethatmax Season 2 Thank you to our audience. Plain and simple. You are our heartbeat. We love you so. X, SJ" while Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, added, "We're coming back for season 2! 👏🤗🎉"
Previously, in a piece with Emmy Magazine, show creator Michael Patrick King hinted at another season. When asked about the possibility of series 2 he said, "I don't know. As we were working, it always felt like the beginning. It didn't feel like a beginning, middle and an end. So I think it's possible to keep going — if we have enough good stories."
Meanwhile, HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys also refused to rule out the possibility in an interview with Vulture. "To tell you the truth, it would be a conversation, because I have no idea," he explained when asked about a follow-up series. "They kind of came together to do this. They were all really busy and doing other things. So it is certainly a conversation we’ll have — for sure. But we haven’t decided anything or done anything."
What is And Just Like That season 2's expected release date?
Sadly we don't have any suggestion of when And Just Like That season two might be released. But, fans are hopeful it might be a quick turnaround - the first series started filming in spring 2021 (via Variety) and the first episodes dropped the following December. Praying it's the same again in 2022!
