With the most idyllic surroundings and heavenly views, this private island just off the coast of south west Scotland, is sure to be an extremely popular catch.

And the best part is the price – Little Ross Island could be yours for £325,000.

Though the actual lighthouse is not for sale, the island plus the former six-bedroom keeper's cottage, a natural harbour, pebbly beach and three B-listed ruinous barns are. The working lighthouse tower itself is owned by the Commissioner for Northern Lighthouses but does not require full-time staff and is only visited a few times a year by the local harbour masters.

Located just off Meikle Ross headland on the Scottish mainland, the stunning views from the island cover the open sea, coastline, countryside, the Isle of Man and Lake District. The island's only neighbours are the smaller rocks, Sugarloaf and Fox Craig.

Covering an area of 29 acres, the picturesque island is currently owned by St Mary's Isle Estate and boasts a detailed history. The working lighthouse tower was designed and built by Alan Stevenson and was first lit way back in 1843.

The lighthouse was so impressive that it was labelled as being 'undoubtedly one of the three best revolving lights in the world' by renowned physicist and engineer, William Thomson, along with Buchan Ness and the Rinns of Islay.

The original, fully furnished cottage, which shares a courtyard with the lighthouse tower, is in need of a little TLC as it hasn't been updated since the 80s. The interiors are fairly traditional and cosy but may benefit from a complete revamp.

Perfect for a peaceful home or holiday getaway within the unspoilt countryside, the island truly lies off the beaten path and can only be accessed by private boat and helicopter.

'Private islands rarely come up for sale at an affordable price and particularly one with a habitable house and additional properties,' David Corrie, senior associate at Galbraith, Castle Douglas, said. 'Given the exciting prospect Little Ross Island presents, we expect a lot of interest from all over the UK as well as abroad.'

This island property is available for offers over £325,000 via Galbraith.
